Reigate College

Any thoughts and opinions on Reigate College ?

For DS who is dyslexic and not very well organised. He's not v academic but creative and would probably choose art and business combinations for A level and BTEC. He is v unmotivated by GCSEs other than the one or 2 that interest him. A tendency to be lazy, just do minimum.

After 6 form he's aiming for art foundation and/or art/fashion/design courses at unis like UAL, Manchester Met, NTU.

Feel like he'd benefit from change of scene but on other hand the freedom may be good (and he could embrace it and rise to challenge) or bad and he'll just mess about.

Appreciate thoughts. Does 6th form college only suit organised, motivated independent learners or also someone like him?

Reigate College is an excellent college and my Ds did amazingly there. He is academic but they cater for a huge range of abilities and differing areas. They are a really large BTEC provider as well in a large range of subjects.
We were delighted with the college and all it had to offer. Great staff who go the extra mile as well and great post college support.
Have you applied yet? At interview they discuss the best options for your son and you can see if it feels like a good fit.

Thanks Purplepooch. Good to hear how well worked for your DS.

My DS wouldn't be going until sept 2021 so we still have time to explore options. Open evening isn't until Oct.

Just opening my mind to what might work for him and help him find a less academic route to what he wants to do. A bit more digging in last few days showed me that results for the art a levels good ok but not amazing. But the business BTEC results are v impressive. Esher College looks like gets better results for art. We are about equal distance between the 2 colleges so will probably take a look at both. Along with his school 6 form and NESCOT and UAL Epsom which offers another art and design programme equivalent to A levels.
