Taking a break from Sixth Form

My wife suffers from cancer and has reached the point where chemo is no longer working. My eldest is seventeen and has just started the second year at sixth form college. Not surprisingly he is struggling to give his studies his full attention.

My question is whether it is possible to take a gap year during A levels. Obviously we need to have a conversation with the college - who are fully aware of the illness. It would just be helpful to know in advance what options we have should he not be able to get his mind around studying this year.

Sorry to hear how difficult life is right now. I think funding is available for further education up to 19 years, so it's worth having the conversation with college at some point so you know the options.
