Guardian Guide to Clearing - where was/is it?

I was under the assumption that there was a supplement guide to clearing in yesterday’s Guardian. There wasn’t anything much online, so bought the print copy but other than a leaflet titled Guide to Clearing, there was nothing else in it! Am I missing something? The supplements were sealed in plastic, so it couldn’t have fallen out Confused

It's the magazine supplement 'Your guide to Clearing 2018' with the mobile phone picture. Going to read it today but so far looks like an overview of the process and articles about starting uni rather than the official clearing lists.

Thanks Leia, all I have is the leaflet with the mobile phone picture but there is no content!

On the other side is an advertisement for guardian masterclasses then the folded page shows an ad for studying medicine in Malta. At the back is an ad for a product called Command and that’s it! Confused

Oh no, that's what the cover is. Sounds like you've got a dud, there should be a 48 page magazine inside those pages.

Ah that makes sense now! Thanks so much Leia. I don’t normally buy newspapers, so I’m feeling pretty annoyed that the one I did happen to buy is missing the supplement I actually wanted.

I have that guide if you want it posting OP.

longestlurkerever · 12/08/2018 10:16

It doesn't look that exciting though - no lists or anything.

C4T5 · 12/08/2018 10:23

Aw it’s very kind of you for offering lurker. Sounds like it’s not what I thought it would be anyway. I’m hoping that DD won’t need it, but the Telegraph on Thursday will have a big section on clearing, so I’ll get that if needed.

The clearing list for 2018 is here

C4T5 · 13/08/2018 20:10

Thanks Third Smile Spent the afternoon with DD going through plans A through to D! Fingers crossed for the dreaded day Gin

The ucas site is shit. I have no idea why it's so restrictive in terms of what you can search for. Very poor design. If your child knows where they want to go and the course they want to study just call them directly. It's important they call, not you.

C4T5 · 14/08/2018 17:04

I definitely won’t be making any calls 😂 DD has been unwavering in what she wants to study at university, so I’m sure she’ll be fine with begging for a place if she has to! Ultimately she knows it comes down to her grades, so what will be will be. A gap year and resitting is not out of the equation either.

I was like your DD. I called around now when the clearing lists came out. It was awesome. I called my first choice and they confirmed I didn't have a place which meant I didn't have AAB. I called my second choice and they said they had spoken with my first choice and were willing to accept me if I wanted to study at their institution. This really took the pressure off results day. I already had my place secured.

C4T5 · 14/08/2018 18:27

Oh that’s interesting Supermum. DD doesn’t have an insurance as such because her first choice reduced her offer to AAB if she chose them as firm and her insurance stayed at AAA so I don’t think there’s much chance of DD going there. She really loves her firm choice uni so is going to try to get a place there as her course is in clearing - for now anyway!

Def have her call. The clearing lists being available mean universities have results and have made decisions. Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2018 20:32

How long ago was that Want2b?

Want2bSupermum · 14/08/2018 20:44

In the 2000s. Family member is responsible for the process. They have said they have the results already. They worked very late last week to get their decisions finalized for their department and update UCAS with any places they have open for clearing.

Want2bSupermum · 14/08/2018 20:45

Sorry should say 'family member is responsible in the department they work for at the university'.
