Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

Class of '18 is brilliant but I really want 'A New Hope' featured somewhere Grin. I was only teasing mostly about The End.

I can hand the reins over to you in the finishers Arena of Joy on Monday OYBBK, I'm off into hospital on Tues night for a long awaited operation and will possibly need to be screen free for a little bit after (this totally outs me but I think it's too late on this thread anyway).

Can't believe your DS is onto his 27th exam TheThird, that's so hard. DS2 is a high flyer but has almost half that number of exams this time round as we are in Wales and still modular (think that's how you put it)and everyone did some early so he's got some grades in hand already. So nice knowing he's already passed one English and Maths a piece before this raft of exams. Only his set had maths this time round as they were doing the highest paper for the second Maths GCSE here, everyone else finished in November.

Interesting to see how all the DC's react to the end of exams. Mine have had a day apiece of complete exhaustion, looked grey with tiny slits for eyes, the day after. Although DS2 seems to have finally embraced the teenage world and is sleeping until midday as a rule now. DS1's ADHD ways are driving him crazy without any structure so I've used him horribly had him do lots of little jobs round the house.

Ok so I'm awake worrying about History! I thought this was the ok paper until I talked to DD earlier and realised that it is just as hard as the other two papers and being the last one she hadn't had as much time to revise for it. Gulp. Just hope she is asleep and not worrying. Confused

Dd seems quite relaxed about the Tudors. But it is her favourite bit of the History syllabus. Good luck to your dd today.

Soon be over.

Three thirty Marmite - that is some serious worrying. I hope she slept better than you did.

TheThird 27 exams - is he close to finishing yet? That's a lot of revision notes.

I'll just go add "clear out notes" to the to do list I'm making for DS. I'm done with asking him over and over to do something, he's getting a list this holiday.

Good luck for today people.
I should be asleep now, but sleep was rubbish last night.

27 exams! That's crazy talk.

We go on a short break a few days after the exams finish, then dd has a small part time job, driving lessons and possibly a bit of a research project and a bit of voluntary work. I'll be putting her to work at home too.
But she is also going. to be doing lots of sleeping and gaming. That's really important!

How many subjects does 27 exams cover? That is seriously stress inducing.

Report
doistayordoigo · 19/06/2018 07:37

DS has C3 this afternoon as well, he took the module last year but is resitting it as last year he got either a D or a U, can't quite remember. Lonicera I would say if your DD is getting all the questions right but just struggling with the time that she's better to concentrate on that and bag all the marks she can...better to be getting everything you do right than rushing to get it all done and making silly mistakes.

We've still got four more exams after today, ending with two back to back maths exams next Monday...the party will well and truly be over by the time I get there, so I'll bring the bin bags for clearing up Grin

My DD2 had 25 exams for 10 subjects. She finished on Friday thank goodness. Third's DS is doing additional/further maths which are the extra 2 this week.
It definitely felt like more of a slog than 2 years ago when DD1 and our lot did theirs.
And yep, a lot of revision notes went in the fire pit on Friday night!

Good Luck today for History, C3 and anything else going on! 🍀

Well she has gone to school. She is feeling unprepared because the last few exams have been on top of each other. Can't do anything now but wait for her to finish. I'm going to tidy a cupboard and go to the charity shop/tip to keep my mind off it!
Good luck all today!

DS2 is doing 10 GCSEs plus the Level 2 qualification in Further Maths. Everyone in his Maths set was entered for Further Maths, and everyone in his science set was entered for triple science, so he had no choice about the number of subjects. It is a lot of exams, which started on 13 May and finish on 21 June.

knitting what did your ds think of the exam? Did he recognise Don Juan in the wider listening? Prob if he is an orchestral player. (ds is not)

MrSlant what a kind son

Ursula Third Marmite hope history goes well. Great subjects to know in depth, even if the exam paper itself isn't the best experience/grade (just don't tell them that now) They will never forget the themes even if they forget the detail in later years. Empire it is all coming back to me too.. Plucky Plevna and Gladstone and Ireland. Tudors I wish I knew more about them, I'm stuck at Jean Plaidy level/read Wolf Hall but too many gruesome bits.

I did the I hour chores method yesterday on ds2, it worked really well and as he said it meant the rest of the day I didn't nag. He mopped bathroom floor and everything Shock I hope I can get more hours out of him eventually but it seems like a proper "work slot" suits him better than random requests or expectations.

All the best to historians and mathematicians today! DD and DS both have afternoon exams today, and DH has the day off because it is his birthday (and he had leave to use or lose by the end of the month). DC have just presented us with a full English breakfast in bed!

Nettles DS is not orchestral and did not recognise Don Juan. I'm not telling him and he hasn't looked it up so he doesn't know. He said the paper was as he expected, no questions that were patently wrong so "ok I guess" was the summary. I am expecting a stellar mark for performance and something decent for composition so the overall mark shouldn't be shameful by anyone's standards other than his.

More good news, he's passed his driving test. I'm really glad about this except that it means that I have to ring the insurers which is never fun.

I hope history and maths go well today for all those affected (or afflicted as the case may be)

So dds last exam was yesterday and she thought it went well. This means nothing however as she has form for thinking exams have gone 'really well' then failing completely Confused

She's repeating year 13 (two new subjects) so she's back in September, but she says she slept better than she has for months last night and seems extremely cheerful.

Well done to your ds knitting. Dd passed hers about a month ago and we need to get on with getting her a car.

Is no one else doing Ancient History? Greece today. Hoping he leaves the house at 12 - for exams i track him on find friends to calm my nerves, however if he's late i guess it will have the opposite effect!

Good luck to the exam takers today!

Congratulations to your DS knitting
DS1 has his first driving lesson tomorrow.
He's mildly dyspraxic so he might take to it like a cat to water.

flying to germany shortly. I hate travelling.
knitting that is fantastic about the driving.

everyone seems to be way ahead of ds on the driving, he hasn't even thought about lessons atm, and we have a problem about his passport which is EU. As I've said before on this thread, I need driving lessons myself, as I am so scared on the road, although I drive locally. This doesn't give much hope for ds, I think every minute he was out there I would be worrying. Got to beat it!!!

He had a bad accident riding his bike aged 9 and I don't think he or I have recovered from fear of mechanical failures/spatial awareness blips. He nor I have ridden a bike since. As I say, we have to beat it!!

sorry this is travel fear speaking..

Well done knitting junior. I found that also being on DS' insurance and him having a black box actually, magically, brought his premiums down not up when he passed. We were both left in shock!

Full English breakfast in bed is truly winning. I am wel jel as the young ones probably stopped saying about 10 years ago Grin.

DS2 did 11 GCSE's and Welsh bacc and still only had 12 written exams this time round. He had oral exams for Eng lit/lang and Welsh and practicals for the three sciences too but they were a bit earlier in the year. Including everything I think it was about 24 different exams over 12 months. Never felt like there was a gap though, either just about to sit or waiting for results. One time they got results on the Thursday and sat another exam the week after! I imagine the different approaches suit/disadvantage children in equal measure depending on their learning type.

DS1 is dyspraxic TheThird and has actually taken to driving really well. Maybe years of having to concentrate extra hard not to bump into stuff translates well to cars. I'm getting the same as you nettle, used to be really confident but the older I get the less driving I want to do.
