Distance learning course- Mental Health

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of Distance learning courses and easy it is to cancel?

I started work in a school a few terms ago as TA. as part of me passing my probation I was asked if i thought any courses would be benefical to me. I work in a lovely SEN department of a large comp, and wanted to explore more about mental health issues with teenagers so i said i think i would enjoy studying for a mental health qualification.

A few weeks back a lady came into school and signed me and most of the department for a distance learning course in mental health. She said at the time, that it could be done at your own pace, never really explained about the criteria for passing, didnt explain about submitting work etc ...... we had to do a basic maths and english test then signed a form with some personal details on it. I now find out that i have signed up for a course thats 160 planned hours. Assignments that have be submitted every two weeks including the summer holidays until the end of september. i work part time but have lots other commitments, lots of volunteering, a very poorly sick mother and two young children.

I have lots of whats app messages from others in my team, whilst i am enjoying a very rare week away with my husband and children. querying the course and deadlines. i have read some of the terms on the course, cant really get to the bottom of it and all the says is if you are more than 2 weeks late submitting assignments then your employer can be charged. I have tried ringing the distance learning manager today to explain about my fears and ultimately tell her i would like withdraw from the course but she is away from the office and no one else can help. I think from the whats app messages even my manager - SENCo is struggling with the amount of work and the deadlines. Also i really not sure the course is specifically for a educational sector. The last few assignments are in Post Natal depression.

just wondered if anyone else has had any experience of any distance learning courses and how they work????

Hi OP I might be able to help. I tried to PM you but it doesn't seem to be working - are you able to PM me and I'll reply?
