St Albans sixth form: Sandringham vs. Beaumont

Hello all,

My DD is going to sixth form next year and we’ve been looking at two schools: Sandringham and Beaumont. She currently goes to STAGS. I’d like to know what all the rest of you feel about these schools and their respective sixth forms, especially about the kind of the environments they have, social as well as academic. Any past experiences?

Have you had a look at Parmiter's? Co-ed, in Garston, great sixth form, bus from St Albans city centre. PM me if you want information

Hi!
Sandringham and Beaumont sixth form are part of the same consortium and so are actually pretty similar/linked. Both equally strong academically (ie. last year both at 70% A*-B at A-level).
The differences are probably more in atmosphere than academics/teaching, which are both strong (much like STAGs). Beaumont is slightly more laid back, for example students wear casual clothes and do not have to be in school when they don't have scheduled lessons - in contrast to Sandringham. This freedom appeals to a lot of students. Sandringham I'd say is stricter and more intense, eg. in terms of workload.
Both have good pastoral care (Beaumont's I know is especially helpful) and generally a good atmosphere between students/in classes etc. There's also a chance she'll go between both for certain subjects.
Hope this information is helpful!
