new thread so we don't get lost. Well done to all our dc whether doing btech (or breach as autocorrect prefers to call it) or a levels. 1/6 of the way through this year. (blimey)

dds college says roughly two hours a night and five hours at weekend for those taking stem subjects. That's on top of a full week at college with only two frees each week. So I guess that's about 39-40 hours of total study time a week expected.
No idea for essay subjects - they are an utter mystery to me!

We haven't had a report yet. I'm not sure when we get them. I've written reports for my year 12 class and none of it is a surprise to them although it may be surprising for some of the parents.

It's dds birthday today. I don't feel like her presents are particularly inspirational but she seems very happy with them. She's got driving lessons from me and dh, plus money from all the extended family. We've got a load of family about to arrive for cake so she will be getting more cards, probably with cash in as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/10/2016 13:34

happy birthday to your dd :)

Apparently her best present is that dh had done all dd's normal weekend chores for her Hmm I'll not bother with the driving lessons then Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/10/2016 13:53

lol!!!

We get a report in November sometime. As I wrote that it seemed so far away but it's the week after next isn't it?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/10/2016 14:04

yup. November is really soon!

HesMyLobster · 23/10/2016 18:25

Ah happy birthday to Little Mermaid!
November is too soon, I can't believe how fast it's going!
This half term has been brilliant but not very restful and not very productive school work wise! We're on the train on the final leg home now and dd has got the history books out - head back into it.
Luckily she managed to get all her homework done before we went away, but as we all know, there's always lots reading and research to do!

We saw the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child yesterday - has anyone seen it?

FantasyAndHope · 23/10/2016 19:06

Happy birthday to your dd little
Just come back from being in out of hours with dd her period pain was unbearable so they hooked her to an IV in the afternoon and put fluids in and sent her home with lots of painkillers, naproxen i think.
At gp's tomorrow as dd just wanted to get home.

MrSlant · 23/10/2016 23:59

Quickly catching up again, will reply and enjoy the thread a bit more tomorrow but whilst I remember Fantasy is it possible your DD could have some blu-tack in one hand whilst she is presenting work? Only saying that as it's been the saviour of two of my DS' giving their fingers something to discretely fiddle with during school. If I had a job it was compatible with I'd have some myself, I constantly pull at my hair and smooth it when a bit stressed, busy shifts see me coming out of work looking like a scare-crow (I was going to put Helena Bonham-Carter but it seemed both mean and a bit above my level of beauty Grin).

We all made it to half term, whoop!

FantasyAndHope · 24/10/2016 09:48

mrslant
Possibly however I'm more annoyed at how he seems to think her body language means she doesn't like the subject he's said the same to another girl and DD has spoken to her and even her mum agrees he's getting to be an awkward teacher, a 3 for effort when she put the most work into her project and he agreed and puts her Hand up and answers questions every lesson?

raspberryrippleicecream · 24/10/2016 19:00

DD says she is trying to get well ahead this week as she is hoping for a Christmas job, she has an interview this week . I can't believe how long and involved some of the application forms!

We visited DS1 at Uni yesterday and it's really confirmed her ambition to go herself.

MsMermaid hope your DD had a lovely day. Has she started her job?

MsMermaid · 24/10/2016 19:09

No she hasn't started yet. She needs to let them know when she has documentation, so she's official. Her passport arrived last week, but she hasn't told them yet because she wants half term off. I've told her she needs to let them know this week.

Needastrongone · 24/10/2016 21:09

Exit Thanks for 2 things! The recommendations re booze for DS and his party. He did get pissed.....Smile But adults were on site and there was set party hours for drop off and pick up so well organised while they all thought they were very grown up!

And the info re the pony/horse. I think we will stop end of next season. That's the thought at present.

All ticking on here, nothing to report. DS has had an excellent 'initial' report (no target grades, just effort, attitude and homework). Really chuffed with the number of 'outstanding' grades he got, just shows how focussed he can become when doing stuff he likes doing. Smile

Belated birthday wishes for your DD Mermaid Smile

Needastrongone · 24/10/2016 21:10

Overuse of Smile's there, I must be in a good mood...

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 24/10/2016 23:07

Need. How are you giving up the pony?

Ours is on loan. So I can wave goodbye if and when DD goes off to Uni.

Clever Exit.

Phone call tonight from Paris to ask me to check the bathroom cupboard to see if she had packed her toothbrush. Le big sigh.

MsMermaid · 24/10/2016 23:13

Paris has shops doesn't it? If she can't find her toothbrush surely she can just buy one there? Dd wouldn't even bother asking she just wouldn't clean her teeth, minger

HesMyLobster · 25/10/2016 00:39

I can confirm that Paris does indeed have shops, lots and lots of shops (I think I was dragged around most of them last week! Wink)
Hope your dd is having a wonderful time Exit.

Strongone glad to hear the party was a success. We're hosting a Halloween party for dd2 (yr10) and friends this weekend. It started off as "a small gathering, defo less than 20 people . . !"
I don't know what I was thinking when I agreed to it.
Obviously that number has now crept north of 30! Confused

Dd got her first officially marked essay back today -history - she got an A! She's very chuffed.
That's the first of 5 that she handed in before half term, (2 history, 2 English, 1 French) fingers crossed she's as happy with the others when they come back.

Hope all the half termers have had a good first day off? I thought of you all this morning when the alarm went off . . ! Envy

Icouldbeknitting · 25/10/2016 19:49

This is our third night without DS who is away doing a supercurricular thing (I am replacing "extracurricular" as I always found it strange that something could be extracurricular while he was taking a GCSE in it). When he leaves home/goes off to uni I think we'll manage just fine together as a couple.

I've not heard from him so I'm assuming that he managed to pack everything that he needed, dressed appropriately and didn't end up in the top bunk (in which case I'm sure he would have rung for a moan).

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/10/2016 17:08

DS1 has steadily been making notes on the seven weeks of Politics work that he missed.

He has made significantly less progress with reading the texts to catch up in English Literature (1984, The Handmaid's Tale, The Road). I love a bit of dystopian fiction and may re-read them all.

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/10/2016 17:11

The school usually publish an initial report in the week after half term. I'm interested to see how they have recorded his progress in the two subjects he hasn't yet started.

muffinmonster · 27/10/2016 17:24

Hi all, glad to see that the thread is still going. I haven't being checking mumsnet much recently as have been very busy. DS got a good report, to my relief, because I know how many DCs find the step up to sixth form really difficult. He has signed up for the school play and also DofE Gold (aargh!).

First parent-teacher meeting is in the first week of December, and clashes with a gig that DH and I had bought tickets for. Sad I guess not turning up would be majorly frowned upon.

TheSecondOfHerName · 27/10/2016 17:40

I'd be tempted to go to the gig, personally. I think later parent-teacher meetings will be more important.

If there were problems, the school would have contacted you by now. e.g. to point out that your child is inherently unsuited to two of his subjects and really needs to swap before it's too late

Needastrongone · 27/10/2016 19:07

Previous pony was a loan Exit. Her owners were lovely until we gave notice...! I'm not sure yet, he's 22. Only he's not 22 really, he thinks he's about 12. Truly wonderful, schoolmaster, responds to the lightest touch, loves to work and is brilliant at his particular line of work but happy to jump or school or whatever you ask. If we retire him, he WILL get old, so I will sell but only to home I know well. Quite easy on our circuit hopefully. Committed to next season, but our season is very full on so not sure after that.

I can see why your DS might be reluctant re the texts tbh Second, but great that he's getting up to speed with the Politics.

I would also be ok with not going to the parents evening muffin, I'm sure if there was an issue, you would know by now. You could always email?

Well done on the A for your DD Lobster.

DS has his first driving lesson on Saturday!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2016 19:19

I'd go to the gig and ask for a phone call with his tutor.
