Our link worker, or supervising social worker, as they now call themselves, was due to visit at 10am this morning.

At 9am she phones to say she's been asked to do the duty phones "so can we postpone til next week". "No problem I reply," "oh by the way" she says

"I've had a call from your last placements social worker who wants to know if you've been claiming child benefit for him as his new mum has applied and been told it's already being paid to someone else"

WTF..... I didn't think this was possible, the only other scenario they can think of is that lo's birth mum is claiming and as they don't know where she is they thought they'd ask me

How hard can it be for a social worker to ask the benefit people who is being paid???

what's so puzzling about this??

i would have assumed that as she was already on the phone to you, she was just checking, before she made other enquiries?

As far as I am aware child benefit is never paid to foster carers. Thats the puzzling thing.

generally not but as i say, she was probably just checking.

always easier to rule out options, than to spend six hours in a queue to benefits office, drag out files, reference numbers and still be no further on.

i have known of cases where grandparents have been eligible to claim, if they make regular contributions to childs care, by way of clothing, contact, toys etc.

She is probably not aware that CB is never paid to foster carers (though I can't see how).

I don't think they are aware of very much to do with carers finances TBH.

Lo's social worker mentioned last week that her parents had asked if they could have my milk tokens for her, errr no, we don't get them either.
