Hi, I've just been put forward to foster a family members baby, they have said we have passed and failed. The child is under 1 all passed checks but failed as partner vapes but not in the house,we have been told we cannot foster this child but we can have the child if we go for SGO. Can somebody tell me the difference we can't foster because he vapes but we can have the child under SGO

If anyone in the household vapes or smokes then you don’t get approved to foster 0-5 year olds, even if they don’t do it inside the home.

If you get a Special Guardianship Order then you are not bound by the same regulations as foster carers and can therefore be smokers or vapers. Although the SGO assessment will still want to be clear that you’re not doing it around the child.
