Hello. I'm looking for advice from anyone that has fostered a family member. A member of my family had a baby, that they have been unable to take care of.
I'm in the middle of my fostering assessment alongside another family member the grandparent and me being the Aunt.
I have been very truthful and expressed that I would want to after a period of settling the baby(6 months by then) in, want to go back to work I'm willing to reduce my hours even my position but I would want to stay in work. We are both going down the SGO route rather than fostering, he's our family and we want to take care of him, juat like we have our own children. Was this ever a problem for anyone else with fostering (SGO) and working, was it a reason to fail an assesment when it came to panel?
Also are there any rights both myself or my sister have when it came to taking time off if he was placed with either of us, like maternity leave enough time to get him settled? I have searched the internet but still not clear if we can or not. I also don't want to ask my assessor because it came across that to them it showed a lack of commitment.
Which is 100 % not the case, I have always worked bringing up my 2 and feel that this was a positive factor that showed my children that working is apart of life, if we want something we work for it and my 2 have grown up and have from young teens had a great work ethic.
