Kinship care assessment process

Hey all!!

Long story short but I have put myself forward to care for a newborn family member. I've had the viability assessment and was told that the court hearing would be this Thursday but I've not been told what the court hearing is for and what happens next? I've tried contacting the social worker but I can't get through.

Does anyone know the process for kinship care?

Many thanks!!

It sounds like care proceedings have been initiated. During the hearings it will be discussed if anyone has put themselves forward for a viability assessment. If you can let the parents know you want to be put forward so they can inform the social worker, or contact the social worker directly . The fostering team will then be required to complete an assessment.

Local authorities will 'twin' or 'triple track' for example looking at 1) whether child can return home/stay home, 2) if family or friends could care of the child, 3) if long term fostering or adoption is a feasible plan for the child.
