Will my old conviction effect my partners application

My husband has an old conviction for possessing cannabis whist a young adult around 26 years ago. He had a fine and since then he has a clean record

We have 4 adult children who have left home

My sister is having issues with her partner and social services are involved. We woukd be prepared to look after their children in the event the children are taken off them

Would this old conviction though effect us in the event that we wish to hsve the children live with us rather than going into the care system

I'm a kinship carer . If you are honest with children's services when they ask , you should be fine.

Agree- as long as you're honest about it you'll be fine.

It will likely be fine as long as you’re honest about it.

The assessor will probably want to discuss what his views on cannabis use and other drugs and alcohol. Whether he has used any since etc.

No just be honest and it's important you can show insight into the concerns held and how you could protect the children from that harm

No, previous convictions obviously would need to be declared, but this would not be an automatic ban from being approved to be a foster parent. Be as detailed as you can about the possession charge, and your views on cannabis now, and how you would keep a child safe.

Clear honesty is far more important than a very old conviction.

I do a lot of interviews and reference checks for a couple of reasons and I prefer ones with 'something' because you can trust the rest. Very squeaky clean is suspicious!
