What happens when a SGO finishes?

Hi,
I don't know if anyone knows what happens when a SGO finishes at age 18?
I'm thinking regarding paying for university fees etc? I thought there was some provision from the County Council but apparently this is not the case.
Its a few years away yet, but I wondered if we are expected to help with supporting our DGS post 18.
Thank you.

I’ve just found this online...
www.frg.org.uk/FandFCForum/viewtopic.php?t=4381
It says as a special guardian your income is not taken into account for university costs.

Have you contacted the organisation Grandparents Plus? They support kinship carers and have loads of info on their website and are very helpful to speak to.

Hi, thank you for those helpful suggestions, I will have a look.
As I said its not for a few years yet but without meaning to sound awful, myself and my DH don't really want to have to be financially liable for another 3 or 4 years if there is some support available.

FOSTERING too SGO standards are different think should be referred to LA's leaving care service at age around 15 and a half for transition and continuing support if in education VIA the staying put scheme . If has a disability and is on a EHCP can stay in education too age 25. can ask advice from IPSEA LA's have a measure of responsibility post 18 subject too childrens act regulations.

Not forgetting even if they have been in care for just a few days THEY ARE STILL CLASSED AS CARE LEAVERS. ANOTHER BIT OF INFO Pupil premium plus (£2300pa) has now been extended too age 18 for college students as a care leaver can also get bursary EMA (educational maintenance allowance).
