Fostering

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on fostering.

Does anyone know about fostering and claiming benefits?

Looks like we might need to claim. DP has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and needs major surgery, he'll be off work for months and is only eligible for SSP as far as he knows. I am our main carer and have two babies in placement with us. We rent and we're scared. Scared of the surgery, scared of the future and I am scared of losing him but I am also scared of losing my home if he does die.

You cannot claim CTC for placed children, but you can claim ctc for your own children and wtc if eligible but anything over 10k in Foster income needs to be consider, if you are in a UC area then I'm not sure

You need to ask your social worker, they will put you in touch with the right person.
It's been a few years now, but I thought fostering income did not affect benefits in any way. Also, it doesn't count toward tax unless it's over 10k a year.
