Hi, my partner and I are thinking of applying to be foster carers, initially respite and then in a few years when our daughter is older we will do short term hopefully. But I have a few questions, here’s some background info.

  • I’m a social worker, have been for 8 years
  • I have a thorough understanding of fostering and what children go through prior to coming into care
  • I know all about the requirements of contact, medicals, reviews etc
  • My partners parents were foster carers and he grew up with foster children

Sorry posted too soon!

My worries are that my partner suffers with anxiety and is on antidepressants for this. He began them around 6 years ago (in a previous marriage) stopped them when I was pregnant and started them again about 8 months ago. He has been advised to do CBT which he is doing online (and has done before). What impact could this have on the assessment?

Also, he went through a period of smoking cannabis when his marriage broke up, around 4 years ago. Doesn’t now and wouldn’t as we now have our daughter. Again, what impact could this have?

He’s such an amazing dad (probably better than me to be honest, he so good!) but on paper he doesn’t look great.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated Flowers
