Hi.... so my 4 are all now adults and getting on with their lives. I have been contemplating fostering for a while now and am making enquiries. My question is this...........Is it odd that I would like to specify fostering a child ( girl, as I am a lone female) with Downs Syndrome? I have some experience through years working in social care, and would really like to give a child the opportunity to live as part of my extended family and nurture her to get the best out of life

That's very specific. You could state a preference of a child with disabilities but if you're limiting yourself to a girl with DS you may never get a placement. Plus if the child is under 5 they would go for adoption if not returning home so would only be a short term placement.

I completely agree with the PP you will never get a placement. We are with a specialist IFA and can place children 0-18, either gender with all additional needs (subject to matching) and the average wait time for placements is 6-12 months!

What is it about Down’s syndrome specifically that interests you? Does seem very specific!
