Do LA's place children in the same area as their family?

Just wondering about travel to school and bumping into family/friends of the foster children.

If i was to foster with my local LA, would the placements i have be children from that same area? In a way it is easier as i could take the children to school, but what if members of their family approached me - are they allowed to know where i live?

Yes! I see my FC birth parents about and they know where we live. Never had any problems though.

Thanks wonderpants. If the children are from the same area and settled in school, that makes sense and is beneficial all round anyway. Just wondered if any negative reaction from birth family.

Most of my placements have been from nearby. Sometimes this has been fine, other times we've been under police protection.

I think regardless of the dangers children cope much better if they can still go to the same school and see their friends. Often school is the only constant thing in their lives.

Also, if the child is old enough to go to school they're extremely likely to tell their parents your address at contact anyway.

we see my dfd's mum about, I stop to chat if I bump into her. she's very amiable.

We've had placements from over an hour's drive away placed with us to get them away from their peers. We've also had local children placed with us and had their families here for the reviews and to drop off/pick up for contact. We've only had one whose family never knew where we lived for the child's safety, but there was no contact anyway.
