We are thinking of fostering but our own dd is only 2. Any advice and success stories of others who have done this

We started the fostering process when our youngest DC was 3 but decided mid-way through the process that we needed to put our desires to foster on hold for a few years. Our main concern with fostering with such young DC was their inability to properly communicate any issues plus we had totally underestimated the amount of time fostering would take up in addition to caring for the child (contact sessions, meetings with SW etc) & I needed to work PT.

We started considering it, but the safer caring policies that meant that no children could come in your bedroom, not initiating cuddles (you don't know what a cuddle might mean to a foster child) etc, were not how we wanted to parent our children. We waited until they were in junior school and starting to develop more independence and ability to understand fostering more. I don't regret this one bit!
Fostering is very different to having another child! We have appointments, contact, meetings every day. You would have to have someone to look after your pre-school age child whilst you were doing all this.

I applied to foster when my eldest was 1 year old, and am still enjoying it more than quarter of a century later!
I am so glad I didn't wait.
