Question regarding my work place..

I posted last week asking a few questions.. And I've decided not to start the process until I've moved house and settled.
However when I begin the process I will obviously have to let my work place know (as presumably they will contact them for a reference?), but I was wondering if they know that I'm planning on leaving if/when I'm approved could they hold that against me and sack me?
I'm sure that sounds absurd and hopefully they can't do that, but i just thought of it and I'm worried now Confused lol.
I work as a teaching assistant in a primary school if that matters at all.
Thanks x

Hi Nic,

You don't have to let work know straightaway, speak to your SSW and the administrator about postponing the work reference for as long as possible. You might decide against fostering somewhere down the line and then there might be no need for work reference.
Also work doesn't need to know you are going to resign altogether, you may consider working part time (as if you were a new mum) - could they accommodate that?
I would start the process, attend the skills to fostering course, start meetings with SSW and then when you decide to go ahead, speak about it at work. My manager didn't know I was going to resign, to be honest I had a chat about working flexibly and they were happy to accommodate that (however I work shifts and it seems a bit easier to go part time than if I was a TA).

I'd ask the LA about delaying work reference, the more you find out from your LA now, the more confident and prepared you will feel when you start the process :)
Good luck!

Thank you for replying to my thread again Kitty!
I don't think my head would accommodate part time as she's refused other workers this. I'll do as you've said though and try to delay work references for as long as possible :)
