Carers Allowance

Hi, my husband gets carers allowance for being my carer, I'm physically disabled. We will be fostering with an IFA (We were all set to go with LA but switched to IFA after an awful initial home visit with LA sw with an awful attitude towards disability!), and because I drive, they want me to be 'main' carer.

Does anyone know if he will lose his Carers Allowance? We can't really get a straight answer from anyone. Thanks x

This is confusing. You are well enough to be the primary Carer but disabled enough to need a Carer? How does that work? Just asking.

Suppose can expect too get complicated some children will be entitled too DLA Motability, all such allowances are not based on income rather range of disability and amount of care needed. Would not effect the care element as is for the individual . But all allowances would have too be declared too DHSS when applying or on renewal as stated on the applications.

I know, it's very confusing. They want me to be main carer purely because I drive, which is a bit strange really as hubby has a lot more experience in care than me. It's basically just a title, as the actual fostering is very much a joint responsibility for us. I get DLA so I know that won't be affected. I guess it will just be a matter of ringing the benefits agency and explaining the whole situation!

No Need DLA is for you , is unaffected as income , any subsequent DLA claim's will be for the individual concerned,
Your LA will be aware of disability law and rights, should not effect you being the main carer if they feel you are capable. My daughter is long term disabled just had a baby, like you drives a disability car., DH main carer. Doubt it would be held against her if she decided too foster.
