I posted yesterday as I was getting ready to meet my first placement, sadly for me but I suppose better for her, a family member came forward to take her so it didn't happen :(
Lots of you posted good luck messages and I would just like to say thank you for your support. Apparently, this kind of thing happens regularly. Never mind, I will resume my position next to the telephone. x

Sorry to hear that, you must feel a whole range of emotions right now.

Be kind and do something nice for yourself today. I am sure it won't be long until the phone rings again with news of your first placement!

It must be heart wrenching to see them leave, and very disapointing when the LO doesn't even arrive. But id like to hope that its a double bonus for the LO staying with blood relatives. Lots of hugs to you tho huni xx

ahh.. sadly this type of thing does happen - and always at the last minute.. still, it gave you a practise run of what its like to get the call... I'm sure it will again soon enough... x x

Oh :( such a hard thing to handle. Especially when it is your first placement and you just want to get "started"

The unpredictable nature of fostering is a hard one to get a handle on - that and social workers that never call back.......

Hoping it isn't too long to wait for the next call

Thanks guys, it is disappointing but I agree, its a double bonus for lo to stay with relatives. It's a very strange mixture of emotions shall we say...head and heart and all that! x

It's horrible that this happened with your first placement - could they not use you for respite while you're waiting (eg for other foster carers on courses etc)? That's likely to be more definite.

Unfortunately, as others have already said, this does happen ALL the time. And sometimes you won't even be given the courtesy of a phone call to let you know they're no longer coming... drives me mad!!!

Panadbois · 23/02/2012 19:10

That's a shame. Crossing my fingers that you won't be waiting long for your first placement.

MommaT · 23/02/2012 20:43

Hi again

I must say that from the first phone call, I received calls from the LO's sw x2, the placements manager, the fc on call and another courtesy call this morning from my ssw! so, I most certainly can't complain about how I was treated along the way, lets hope this kind of consideration continues, either that or they just didn't want to get me off side so early. Hmm x

Good luck when it happens. One thing is sure...it will happen! Are you with a LA? If so, it wont be long and then the fun will begin!! Smile
