Brilliant - now the real hard work starts... keep us posted and please don't disappear once you get a placement !!! :)

threeandcounting · 01/09/2010 22:37

Congratulations!!!!!!! Looking forward to hear what happends next!

SquidgyBrain · 02/09/2010 13:11

thanks ladies - p99 sorry you are stuck with me, I am not going anywhere LOL

shall keep you updated when something happens. Im just holding onto the thought that while we have no placement there is a child that doesn't need to be in care, and that it means that when a child does need somewhere safe to be then we can help

It is also giving me lots of baby shopping time :)

Congratulations.

One of the best bits of fostering babies is buying all the cute liitle baby outfits and things. That and the cuddles make up for the lack of sleep. Smile

Just out of interest, how long did the process take? Am considering fostering in the future - just as soon as I can persuade DH! Congratulations!

SquidgyBrain · 02/09/2010 17:41

Sumum yeah have been having a ball, although we have all the equipment from when our own kids were little, we have decided that we want to start afresh with the foster babies, so have spent a small fortune on a cot carseat and buggies!

Comtessa, we are a bit unusual in the length of time it took for us to be approved, it should be about the 6 month mark from the start of your application (so after the pre course) for us we did the prep course and passed that in Jan 2009, initially we were told that they wanted us to wait a year as our youngest was only 2 at the time, so we appealed the decision, and we were then allowed to apply in the June, however my parents offer us their business at a really reduced rate so we took 4 months out to think about that as financially it would have been very beneficial, but our hearts were not in it and we both felt sad that we wouldn't be able to apply to foster any time soon after taking on the business, so we politely declined and got back in touch with the LA, they assigned us 2 worker, one of who left just afterwards, so that took another couple of weeks to sort out another worker, she then went off sick so we waited on her coming back to work, then it was christmas, then there was various sickness bugs that went round, so finally we got the assessment started at the end of Jan this year. We were initially looking at going to panel at the start of July but they needed the slot for a permanency placement, and then our social workers were on holiday as were some panel members. That is the long answer - the short is about 18months lol

Hi Comtessa... we got approved on Tuesday this week (yey yeh).

We initially applied in Nov 09 - so about 10 months really.. with the LA anyway..

Think it all depends on when they are next running the "Skills to Foster course". We hit it at the right time.

Good luck if you do decide to proceed.

Squidgy - can I call you squidgy?? Hope to share lots of laughter, stress & tears x x :)

SquidgyBrain · 02/09/2010 20:04

p99 - you can call me what ever you like :)

comtessa · 03/09/2010 09:18

Thanks Squidgy and p99, good to know. And well done again! xx

shaz298 · 03/09/2010 11:29

Congratulations Grin

Minnerva · 05/09/2010 08:27

Congratulations to you and all your family.:)

As p99gmb said'The hard work starts here' and it does but it will quite possibly be one of the best decisions that you ever take.

SquidgyBrain · 05/09/2010 10:28

thanks again ladies - we all can't quite get our heads round that the journey to become foster carers has ended and we are now actually approved. I think as EMIN said in another thread that it isn't going to be until we actually have a child in our living room that it is going to hit us!

Im guessing the call is going to come this week - since Mr Squidgy is away working - leaving this afternoon and won't be home till late on Friday!

Any news yet???

SquidgyBrain · 11/09/2010 19:20

sorry AD missed your message - we are still waiting, apparently we almost got a call last week but they placed the baby else where, we have been asked to do a 24 hour respite for a local carer at the end of the month, who has tiny little lodger just now :)
