Just watched the Grenadier Guards on tv, and on of them fainted at the practice for the Troop.
Tell me, do they get a right bollocking for fainting on parade?

Dh says yes, he did Buck House a few years ago, and says if it is for something stupid like not eating breakfast, your well fucked (his words not mine, I of course would never swear)

Oh, was he in the guards?

I thought it was a fascinating programme, but being RAF I got completely baffled by Regimental Sgt Major, Company Sgt Major and Garrison Sgt Major.
Why so many?

No he was Royal Signals, but it was the Corps anniversary so they did a turn, 1995 he said.

(He does look very very very young in the newspaper clipping he has)

And garrison SM would be in charge of whole garrison, which would include the regt SM, and then he would be above the Comp SM.

IIRC, London Garrison Sgt Maj is the senior NCO in the Army (followed by the Academy RSM at RMAS).

A friend of ours is in the Grenadiers and - apparently - when they lifted the height requirements to join the regiments, they commissioned a shorter-than-usual officer, who ended up doing the Trooping the Colour the next year.

Allegedly, the Queen objected to his height (privately of course) and he was relieved of ceremonial duties from then on.

i remember policing trooping of the colour.....it went police officer/guard/police officer/guard all the way down the mall. i was given a packet of polos and told to walk the line and pop one in each guards mouth!!

was very funny as they could only drop their mouth open, then close it again!!

luciemule · 08/06/2010 12:49

was that so they had some sugar and didn't faint?

Saltire · 08/06/2010 16:41

I'd love to go and watch it - and get tickets for my step dad who was in the Scots Guards
