Just wondering if Strictlykatty is about........if yes, do you know if there are any free quarters in Bower green coming up - as large as possible? DE have offered a friend number 18 but she would prefer to be at the bottom (number 40 is coming up but don't think the family have told DE as yet. If there is one you know of can you let me know? Thanks katty .

Oh and there are a few up the other end free... I think number 44 is free and a few others, I'll have a wonder and see in a min. Sorry for the delay didn't check this section til today.

Ooops just realised my friend is in 17.. I don't check the numbers often So 17 will also be free very soon!

StrictlyKatty · 23/04/2010 18:55

One more thing the lower numbers are better IMO as the higher numbers are up where the footpath is to the Jubilee Centre which means people walk right past your window (looking in) all day long! The lower numbers don't lead anywhere so very few people walk past and it's a lot more private.

So 1-48 I would say are good.

luciemule · 23/04/2010 23:27

So is the 44 you mean, at the end of bower green overlooking the fields?

Thanks for the advice katty - will tell my friend.

OP posts:
StrictlyKatty · 24/04/2010 10:34

Yes, it's the side going away from the main gate. 48-84 and the houses on the other side getting closer and closer to the main gate and the Jubilee Centre so they are the ones everyone walks past all day long... you just can't help looking in the windows and I do feel bad when you see people ironing in their PJ's .

If she has any more numbers let me know as some houses are very overcast with trees so pretty dark inside so I can let you know which ones to avoid.

luciemule · 25/04/2010 16:46

Hmm - my old house (20) was quite dark in the lounge due to the huge silver birch trees in the front.

OP posts:
StrictlyKatty · 26/04/2010 11:12

Yeah 84 and 16-20 are pretty dark right now, but periodically they send them round to cut the trees right back so you can get lucky.

StrictlyKatty · 28/04/2010 17:19

Ok 18 is free now as is 77 and 52 I think 2 or 3 more are leaving this week so I'll keep checking

luciemule · 29/04/2010 14:47

Thanks katty - that's very kind of you. That was 77 and 52 Bower green yes?

OP posts:
StrictlyKatty · 29/04/2010 17:13

Yes indeedy.

8 Roman Walk is now free as of today and is reeeeaaaallly nice!

luciemule · 29/04/2010 18:16

ooh - will tell them. Does it have bigger garden? They want as big a garden as poss.

OP posts:
StrictlyKatty · 29/04/2010 19:18

Yeah tis big and new build. My friend moved out today and it's gorgeous, nicely painted new carpets etc. The BG houses are just sooooooooooo manky that if they aren't really desperate to save money or like us are not given a choice! I would take a new build. Most people I know have cried moving into BG as they are so run down! Roman Walk is 30 seconds from the Jubilee Centre, 3 mins from CoOp and generally a LOT nicer IMO.

StrictlyKatty · 29/04/2010 19:20

Oh and did I mention Roman Walk houses have a proper utility room! Not a shed outside, an actually attached to the house carpeted utility room

and an attached garage. Heaven!

luciemule · 29/04/2010 19:42

thanks katty - will tell her. I would have loved to live in a roman walk one but we were actually glad to save the money and I guess they were in much better condition 5 yrs ago.

mylittlepeanut · 29/04/2010 19:53

Sorry for butting in, we were on Roman Walk last year and the houses are great. Even though they are more expensive than Bower Green you actually save money as it costs much less to heat the house. Some friends of ours went for the Bower Green option but were significantly worst off when you took the fuel costs into consideration. The new build houses are also maintained by a private group rather than the usual MHS cowboys.

StrictlyKatty · 29/04/2010 20:04

I will say my heating bill over the winter ws £300 a month, my friends in RW was about £70...

And the maintenence is indeed excellent, they come the same day! Modern housing tell you to wait 3 days when there is water coming through the ceiling!

luciemule · 29/04/2010 20:39

they come on the same day???
Will tell the lady the info - thank you.
I had a friend who lived in roman walk and I loved the lay out. Our house in Ilchester was the same and I loved the fact that the kids could ride their scooters all the way around the kitchen-dining-lounge-hall in winter without causing damage!
bower green was just one long landing and one long hallway with snall rooms off each end. Except our bedroom that was so huge, we could have had three families living in there!

Hahahah yes truly my friend once rang at 10am and they were there by 12! I was

I think they are really worth the extra money, well actually I agree that will the bills they actually work out cheaper.

luciemule · 02/05/2010 11:09

Hi katty - something completely different but when did you move back from Fally again and did you see the renovated quarters in Queens Ave?
Basically, something has happened last and DH came home on Friday with some good news (you'll be upset when I tell you). If he doesn't pick up on the pink list in 3 weeks time, there a chance to go to Fally for 2 yrs. (don't throw tomatoes at me!) However, I remember that when we left, they were moving people out (summer 2004) of Queen's ave to renovate the quarters. Can you remember what they were doing and if the end result was nice? I couldn't remember what they were doing to do them. We're never in a win/win situation when it comes to postings but because this friend of DH doesn't want to do the OC posting out there due to family committments in UK, he's happy to do DHs current job and for DH to do his new one. If DH doesn't pick up, that'll mean though moving in 3 months (OMG). Obviously if I go, I will post you some yummy bits from supermarket .

StrictlyKatty · 02/05/2010 17:34

lucie you just made me internally scream!!!!!!

Yes the results were fab, my friend had one and it rivaled my heavenly hiring! Ohhhh why are some people so lucky when I am so terribly cursed when DH gets back he's getting a new earful

I could literally not be more jealous of another human being right now. I've been making DH his favourite cake now I think I'll actually take it out the oven, half done, and eat the entire thing to make myself feel better

Is this your DH's first shot at the pink list?

luciemule · 02/05/2010 21:57

Oh - I feel really bad now.
Yes - it's his first look - he's made the last 30 in pre-selection but we'll just have to wait and see. Obviously we'd prefer him to pink (well, I'm not sure actually ) but at least our let down won't be so bad if we can jiggle Fally as the next best thing. We're actually more excited about the prospect of Fally than we are him being promoted! He was the Adj last time we were there and he's already done his company command but he loves working with the guys rather than a staff job (which is what he's doing now) so he would love to go back there. We wouldn't necessarily get a MQ on Queen's ave either as it's short notice to go but we'd have to see. As long as it's fally, it really wouldn't matter.

OP posts:
luciemule · 16/05/2010 14:49

Hi Katty 0 well Fally is out of the equation for us too! They've found someone else who hasn't yet done a command post so he'll be going instead. Let's hope it's a pos+ pink list result now!

OP posts:
StrictlyTory · 22/05/2010 21:30

I'm gutted for you! DH's friend on his course took the job in Gutersloh today... his wife chaged her location to Gutersloh on Facebook and I really thought I would scream

We've been told no houses in Colchester til July so we're stuck in Shrivenhell til then... I swear I'll never leave the hovel!

luciemule · 30/05/2010 20:51

Poor you - so was the gutesloh job the job your DH wanted? Bummer.
Shame no houses until July - it's so annoying that some people don't say they're off until right at the last minute - it makes the whole HIC system a joke.

DH picked up on the pink list! We're so chuffed and that's why Glasgow wouldn't let him go, so guess what...........he's off to shriv! We were going to go with him for ACSC but tbh, think it'll be less stressful for everyone if we stay here one more year and then move on his next posting (hopefully command). He's being ran on the command board in June so fingers crossed.......again! The stress never ends!!!
