Hi girls - on behalf of a friend, I'm asking if there's anyone you know currently living at Abbeywood in a married quarter (not hiring) in Emerson's Green, who is moving very shortly and who perhaps has not told the HIC yet? Have a friend who is desperately needing to move back with DH and there don't seem to be any quarters and they really don't want a hiring.
Thanks in advance
ps - if yes, could you tell me the house number and road so she can tell HIC?

Hi, have you tried posting on Married Quarters r us on Facebook? You will probably reach a bigger military audience?

luciemule · 20/04/2010 09:31

thanks lotts - will do it now

lottaluvin - just had a look myself at that facebook page (cos I'm nosey) and the pictures - you'd think people would tidy up a bit if they were taking pictures - maybe it's just me

luciemule · 20/04/2010 09:40

I couldn't work out how to post a message? I became a fan but that's it. Hmmm.

and why are they posting pictures of their cars?

Drusilla · 20/04/2010 09:43

She'll be very lucky to get one at Emmersons - it's notorious! She won't get a hiring either - they house epople at Colerne, Corsham etc.

lottaluvin · 20/04/2010 10:02

Saltire i spent ages on that site looking at other houses all better than ours lol, and secretly hating the posing gits who had sent pictures of their Oman 6 bedroom townhouses with a pool. I'm sure about 1 in 500,000 people looking at the site would be posted there so they are just showing off LMAO!

If they need to go down and scout the area, don't forget there is a caravan park type place near Corsham: www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceFor/ServiceCommunity/TheServicesCotswoldCentre.htm where they can stay.

We nearly ended up living here for 3 weeks when dh cocked up and forgot to put in housing paperwork

lottaluvin · 20/04/2010 10:03

Don't know why there's a huge gap there lmao!

You will need to post a thread in the discussion bit.....

luciemule · 20/04/2010 14:22

Thanks Lotta - it's okay -he's already been at AW for a year unaccomapanied - for special circumstances, they are moving back in to a MQ and it has to be emersons.
Will have a look at the discussion bit on fb.

To be honest even if you fidn one this way it is unlikely that it will be allocated tou your friend if there is a waiting list unless there are strong compassionate reasons.

luciemule · 21/04/2010 17:14

thanks penguin. I think they're at the top of the list now so leaving them to it now. her Dh stalked around the patch in the dark last night and found 5 empty ones so think they were going to tell DE the numbers today and ask if they're all allocated. Tbh, the whole system is a bit bonk - the fact that you don't have to tell anyone you're moving until 3 weeks before means that there are people waiting to move but De don't even know who's moving out and so can't allocate. A more efficient, reformed system defo needed.

Get the appointers to get their fingers out then. In the RN you sometimes don't know it's definite until the last minute; presume the other two services can be similar as well.

I'd be very pissed off if I didn't know where I was going and someone was hassling me about the MQ I was in presently.

luciemule · 21/04/2010 22:00

Hmm - in the army it's often different. DE openly admit that they find it difficult to know who's mnoving out and when. They admit that the system isn't great and they actually appreciate being let know that people are moving as soon as possible and for many of our own quarters, we''ve found a quarter through people we know/friends of friends and have co-incided move out/in dates before informing DE, who have then agreed the exchange.

We have fewer MQs than the Army - many in the Devonport area have been sold off to Annington, so you don't leave until you know where you are going.

That's why until 2006 I didn't live in an MQ, but had my own place, to which we will return when dh has finished here.

fedupwithdeployment · 26/04/2010 14:33

They are selling them off left right and centre in our road...we are not quite up for sale yet, but I feel it is a matter of time. When you see the price tags (£575k for a 3 bed) you can see what is driving them.
