am still quite emotional after the birth and feel as if the whole world is against me, it's not, I have a v. supportive family, to top the lot DS looks so much like DP it's unreal......

Hello - I'm with you every step of the way. You feel a bit guilty about feeling so low when you have a beautiful child and a lovely family but SOMETHING is missing and it's the (previously!) biggest thing in your life.
Try and remember that he is feeling just as lonely as you are but he cannot cuddle his little boy every night, sleep in his lovely bed with his own duvet or ring up his mum for a chat. He is living in a grotty environment where personal hygiene takes on a whole new meaning and any contact with home is precious.
Send as many letters and photos of you and your son as you can along with little parcels of comforts from home - doing this every week really helped me get through.
xx

hi fulltimeworkingmum thank you for your reply, I will be sending him little shoe-boxes of goodies all the time and letters and photo's, I think it's the fact that he hasn't even seen his son yet and won't see until August.........

I know he's got a job to do and am really proud of my soldier

take lots of video footage and send out dvds great because you capture all the gurgling sounds as well- or store them till he gets home. my dh went away when dc was 4mth till 11mth and i sent out a dvd a month also took photos every week for the 1st 52 wks! and put them on the dvds as well. when dh got home i gave him one of those pic frames which have a space for 12 pics 1 for each month and one big pic - the caption says my 1st year - dh was well chuffed!
