How much would your DH/DP spend on a 2nd hand Mess Dress

DH needs one, he's never needed one up till now due to being on a Army run TRI service place where the Army people he worked with didn't wear their MessDress. He has been bidding on one on ebay but it's currently over £200 (he's annoyed as well, because the person outbidding him ha sonly joined ebay, but I told him he can't help that). I feel that just over £200 isn't a bad price, they are £450 new

Dh's was £750 new in 1999 for an RN Cdr and that was cheap (couldn't run to Gieves!).

£200 is good. Sometimes people going outside sell theirs on - has he looked at any of the RAF boards for that?

Hi Saltire - DH just said that he wouldn't spend more than 50-100 (depending on wear) and he thought 200 seemed a lot. In his core REME, he wouldn't pay that much on ebay. However, he said that on ebay, something is worth as much as someone's willing to pay so different really. Has your DH tried the regiment's 2nd hand shop?

If you're going to go much above 200, then you almost might as well buy it brand new and know it's pristine.

I don't think the RAF has a 2nd hand shop,also can afford £200 just now, but not £450 for a new one, we just don't have that much free cash - unless we starve for a month

OK thanks. There is no tailor here, but might be one at Leeming I suppose. We have looked everywhere and they all seem to be £400/450 new! But apparently all new Sgts promoted a month after DH and since get a grant of £250 towards Mess Dress, so the price of them all went up

saltire we sold one on ebay and only got £10!!!
Dh bought a new Number 5 set from cranwell off the peg it was £400.
Has he asked around on camp as sometimes people have just not got round to selling.

3 have sold on ebay this weekend, all for between 175 and 200+
He has asked around but it's a very small camp we are on so not having any joy
