How do the pilots who form the "Red Arrows" get selected?

Saw them today at an event and they were incredible.

From what I could deduce above dds screams whilst it was all going on all of the pilots had seen active service in Iraq and so on and I wondered how the team was chosen and how often it was changed and so on.

They also manange to get lots of funding from the MOD, which is really good of the MOD,consodering that they have no money to buy equipment, do up houses etc!
