Anyone at Rosyth?

SO, DH's latest bright idea (having told me he wants to go to henlow in the summer), is that there is a job coming up at Rosyth in 14 months time- like I can stay here that long - anyway he wants to apply for it. What's it like? I passed the place regularly when at another base nearby, but was never actually in the place

Well... i hated it! Sorry. I was having a rough time up there though, so my opinion maybe clouded by that. It is raining and grey 95% of the time and Rosyth doesnt actually have much to do but Dunfermline is good for a night out most of the time and the shopping is ok. That is as far as my knowledge goes.

Up the road in Dunfermline.

The shops have improved since the new Debenhams and shopping centre extension opened. I've lived here for 16 years and love it.

I live in Rosyth, in non MQ but very near them.

The best thing about Rosyth, is that it's close enough to the Forth Road Bridge so I can escape over to Edinburgh very easily. It also has direct rail link to Edinburgh. Close to airport too, took me 15 mins to get back from dropping off dh this morning.

Dunfermline is getting better, shopping is not too bad now. Have never had the opportunity to sample night life in Fife.

Weather isn't all that bad, we live high enough up to avoid the haar in the summer, which can last for days.

Well we did 5 years at the big base up the road, so I know the Fife har very well.
Was jsut wondering about the place as a whole. Secondary school for eg, is it in Rosyth? Primary school? Are the MQs in town and near to teh schools and shops.

There are 2 lots of MQ, one is on the outskirts of Rosyth, near the Forth Bridges and a big development site. The other patch is quite near HMS Caledonia and are next to the playing fields, which are great.

There are several primary schools in Rosyth and I think Kings Road or Camdean Primary are the schools in our catchment area. Both would be a bit of a walk from the MQ's.
Secondary education is provided in Dunfermline.

There is a Tesco Metro, small Co-op and a couple of Spars, one of which is still run by the NAAFI.

I do have to admit to driving everywhere at the moment as dd1 is 3 and will not walk very far.

Was the base across the other side? Dh was there for a while too after his boat came out of refit in Rosyth.

No it was the RAF one, DH is RAF. He would be wroking at Caledonia though

I know where you mean now!

Sorry forgot about that base, despite visiting there most years for the annual show.

saltire · 19/11/2008 16:26

I only went to that show because I got a free ticket. You seen one jet, you've seen them all

That's how I feel about the grey cruise liners, as I call them. I just can't understand dh's enthusiasm!!

Whereas, jets, well at least they go fast and can make an impressive noise
