just been talking to my friend at aldershot.

her dh is in afgan at the moment and was supposed to be back for r 'n' r last friday, her sister was getting married the same day and he was to be there for the reception.

he called her on the thursday to say his flight was going to be delayed and he would not be back till the sunday and would miss the wedding.

so friday night she was half pissed and feeling miserable about being alone when one of her family came over to tell her that her husband had managed to call the hotel and was on the phone at reception.

she walks through to reception to talk to him and there he is standing (in his desert combats) holding a massive bunch of flowers

i was in tears when she told me this, he had not seen her or the children for 4 months!!!

DH is currently under the water, so when he comes back he hasn't shaved for weeks. Add to that the general smell of unwashed man and diesel fumes, I can usually wait 10 minutes for a proper welcome home kiss whilst he has a shower! Even washing his clothes a couple of times doesn't get the smell out.

How lovely!

Last time DS and I flew home to Dublin from here there were about a hundred US soldiers wandering around the airport in what looked to my untrained eye like desert uniform - looked very good!

VanillaPumpkin · 20/06/2008 16:08

Awww. How fantastic! (Oh and with you all on the combats )
I have just looked at my Army friends photos on Facebook of her Dh's return. Had me in tears.

Laura - I always found the best solution was to Swarfega everything and that got the smell out. As for the smelly money - that was a great excuse to spend it!!

DH has full set, so no shaving issues at all.
