......so my trip to the UK to visit schools in Halton for DD to start in September wasn't quite useful as on the way to the airport we had a phone call to say we our posting has changed to November and we're going to High Wycombe!

Never been there, anyone know it? Info on schools would be helpful!

primary or secondary?

hf128219 · 09/06/2008 16:26

Typical!! There is a web site www.forceshighwycombe2day.ws that might help.

McDreamy · 09/06/2008 16:44

Oh sorry primary

Thanks hf!

Ah, can't really help with primaries but you could start by looking here

flossie64 · 12/06/2008 21:01

If your MQ is at medmenham the school there semed very good when we looked round it .
But I don't know anything about schools at bBradenham beeches or Walters Ash.
What ever you do don't accept a MQ aat White Waltham,. The one we were offered came complete with smashed patio window , guttering hanging off ,garage that had a door haning off and to cap it all ivy growing up the dining room wall. INSIDE!!!!
We Know a couple of people who came back from abroad and got stitched up with there, don't get caught out.

flossie64 · 12/06/2008 21:02

Good God my typing is terrible

howmuchchoccanIeatb4iexplode · 12/06/2008 21:19

There are lots of good village schools around Wycombe.
West Wycombe primary always has a waiting list as does Radnage and near the base in Walters Ash is a little school, not sure what it is like but it's a lovely area.

For secondary schools Princes Risbrough would be the one your children would go to and it has a goodish reputation. The grammer schools are all very high standard esp Royal Grammer.

Wycombe itself has a few parts that are a bit of a dive - sorry any Wycombians - but there are beautiful areas around. Speen near where you will be has a rest home for retired horses that is pretty well know, Tiggywinkles in Haddenham is lovely (and has been on springwatch and Pippin!!) and Marlow is not too far either.

HTH and all the best with the move! Are you excited?

howmuchchoccanIeatb4iexplode · 12/06/2008 21:21

Sorry - Bledlow Ridge School not Radnage!

McDreamy · 15/06/2008 16:42

Yes very excited! Coming back to the UK for a month over the summer so hoping to pay a little visit to the area. Thanks for all the helpful advice

Oh McDreamy, We have friends who have moved there last month. He is a Sqn Ldr and has been put in a hiring as there is a shortage of that level housing......thinking this might affect you too???
There is a chance we might speak to them this week so I will see what they say. I know their younger boy (8) has settled fine into the school but the elder more sensitive one (9 or 10) has not unsurprisingly taken a bit longer.....but all ok now I think.
They are fab fun. I will make sure I give you their name before you get there. You will def find them in the mess .

McDreamy · 15/06/2008 18:19

Oh thank you VP. Haven't seen you for a while! How are you?

Hello
Have been away for half term and dh very busy at work for his course's big graduation so busier than usual at home too. Trying to be less dependent on MN too and failing of course.....
DH going for Cyprus again in Feb. Apparently only two names (his and one other) down on the list at the mo and one job available in Nov and one Feb so there is a chance we might make it back out there....

VanillaPumpkin · 15/06/2008 20:44

Spoke to our friend. They are in a hiring but think you might get priority as you will be returning from overseas.
Their children are at Napp Hill and Walters Ash School. Very pleased with it.
Danesfield School is also very nice and near Menmeham housing, and then there is Dawes Hill which also has a good rep. Sounds like you can't go too wrong tbh. They were over on Anglesey and had a great tour there but have just told me that High Wycombe is a really nice area . Good news.
They have told me to def let them have your name etc and they will keep an eye out for you (even though I had to confess I had no real idea what you look like ). At least I could say we have met once so they don't think we are total loons together.
All sounds very positive to be honest. I have another two friends who also loved it there and would go back....One even stayed for as long as poss when her husband was posted! All officers wives so the mess must be good .

McDreamy · 16/06/2008 06:43

VP thank you that' so kind of you. I am really looking forward to meeting them now. Really nice to know I will already "know" someone there already You can of course give them my name, I will CAT you or something once I know what's going on, maybe you could then pass it all onto your friend.

Good news about Cyprus, I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Shame we will have left by then

VanillaPumpkin · 16/06/2008 16:52

Of course
I am not leaving here except for Cyprus, Honington or at a push Headley Court...... That is my plan anyway. Not sure dh has told the RAF yet...........

McDreamy · 16/06/2008 16:56

Oh Headly Court would be good, that's not far from High Wycombe is it? We could meet up Where are you at the moment?

OP posts:
VanillaPumpkin · 16/06/2008 17:00

We are in the West Midlands where all the PTI's are trained (being cryptic though not sure why ...)

VanillaPumpkin · 16/06/2008 17:01

Headley Court is unlikely tbh but yes close to Wycombe I think so could def do a meet up .

McDreamy · 16/06/2008 18:00

Well if you do get to Aki you'll have to visit our new Ermes (NAAFI) store! We now have a deli and a butchery counter - it's very good!!
