Hello all,
Sorry I am new to all this.
I was just wondering if any one would be able to tell me the genaral layout of the houses in Woodside View? I am moving down from Kinloss in July, I can't wait for a change. I was also wondering if anyone could tell me about Honington Primary? My little boy will be starting there this year and I'm so nervous.
Thank you everyone x

Hello .
I am jealous. We are hoping to get to Honington at some point.
I can't help with the housing but there are definately a couple of ladies on here who are or have been at Honington. I think one is housed at Thetford. Where is Woodside View? It is actually at Honington? I have read the Ofsted report for the Primary school but don't know any more than that I am afraid. I am sure someone will be along soonish.
Bump for them.

Hello,
Thank you.
I am looking forward to moving - it's getting so close now, arhhh......
Yes Woodside View is just opposite the camp and only about a mile from Honington school so quite handy.
All the reports for the school I've read seem good, I'm just doing the panicy Mum thing, lol.
Hope to see you there soon....
Thank you again

I don't think the main lot of housing is that good at Honington to be honest. Just to prepare you a little. When we looked there was a nicer road, but we thought that must be Officer housing (so if you are an Officers family you will be OK ). The camp was fun when dh was there a few years ago, and it is a really lovely part of the UK to be, in my (slightly biased) opinion. It can be quiet when the squadrons go away according to dh. I hope you will enjoy it.

My DS started school at Honington Primary in 2000 and we were there until 2003.

We were very pleased with the school. Most of the children there come from the base so there was no shortage of friends for DCs or you! The school is very used to coping with the impact of forces life on children and the higher than average turnover. It is a CofE school, which suited us very well, but doesn't suit everyone.

I can't comment on Woodside I'm afraid, as DH was an officer, but we did hear complaints that the mQs were rather small. Maybe someone could update on that?

Suffolk is beautiful, very cold in the winter, and the camp can feel isolated when the chaps go away. Thetford is very small, Bury St Edmunds (BSE) has more to it and a wonderful market every Weds and Sat. For bigger shops you need to be prepared to drive to Norwich or Ipswich.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your move.

I know this is an old thread but wanted to find out if RafWag was enjoying Honington. I loved our time there and can't wait to get back!!

VanillaPumpkin · 10/09/2008 16:43

We would love to be at Honington too . Is there a good chance you would go back Empress???
Please tell me you wouldn't be after a PTI slot or we might be in competition for the same job (for DH obv)

empressorchid · 11/09/2008 20:07

No not after the PTI slot, DH is Regt!

Claire236 · 11/09/2008 20:16

I'm now in Germany but used to be at Honington. Lived at Woodside View in fact. DH is an ex Rock Ape.

VanillaPumpkin · 12/09/2008 09:41

Phew .

empressorchid · 12/09/2008 11:05

LOL Vanilla. Most people I know try to get away from Honington. Never heard anyone so anxious to get there - especially non-Regt!!

VanillaPumpkin · 12/09/2008 13:02

I know. It is our neck of the woods though so closest we can be to family etc and where we would want to settle.
No one wants to move from there though .

i live in the quarters in barnham but hubby works at honington. he trains the recruits. hope you settled in nicely

EandLmum · 20/10/2008 21:51

hi im new to the site. my hubby is a rock too. we were at honington for 5 years then we were posted to leeming (dont ask!) trying to get back donw that way as i need a break from 6 mth tours so hoping hubby can get a training wing slot. would love to hear from other rock wives as there are only 19 wags on the sqn we are on and only about half of those live in quarters so pretty lonely on the green side of things.

empressorchid · 21/10/2008 21:32

EandLmum - Hubby on a sqn? Haven't had Dh disappear since before DS was born and he is three now, but DH looking for sqn posting next!! Mind you I don't think 2sqn has anything fo DH at the moment so we might be looking at Wittering which isn't too bad...

abba1772 · 25/10/2008 16:53

I know what you mean EandLmum

my hubbie got posted onto training wing at honington in january and it's very weird not waiting for him to go on tours lol
