Troops who serve for six months in Iraq and Afghanistan receive a tax-free bonus of £2,240. Pro rata if a longer tour.

Don't know, I don't think the RAF are entitled to it.

kerryk · 19/05/2008 10:07

is it really that much, i thought it was about £6 per day?

i thought it was paid in the bank every month they were away (with the wages) but someone else has said they get it as a lump sum after the tour has finished. i did not think it was that much though

The figure is definitely right - the same for all ranks. Payable at tour end and tax free. There is also LSSA - dependant on how many days separation are already in place. YOu can see the levels of LSSA on the MOD website/Army net. LSSA is taxable.

benandalex · 30/05/2008 21:09

its def a lump sum we have had it twice non taxable and very welcome after a crappy tour

hey all, just a follow up on this thread, the RAF do get this allowance as my dh was in afghanistan in 2006 and we got a lump sum for £1500.00, he was away for 4 months.
