How many of you iron your dh's shirts? I accepted his proposal on the understanding that I would never have to iron his uniform shirts unless I offered to. So far, so good!!

Ironed his uniform shirts once and made such a bad job of it, he asked me never to iron them again. It was hard work to get all those extra creases in them but was worth it

Notyummy · 30/04/2008 14:18

Ironing is 50/50 in the ny house. I used to be an RAF officer as well, so unfortunately can't use the 'don't how your uniform needs to be ironed' excuse. Luckily, the actual amount of ironing is tiny, as he wears a flying suit 90% of the time, and a lot of my clothes are bought with not ironing in mind dd is 21 months old, so she doesn't get a vote, and doesn't care whether her clothes are creased or not.

LL, wonder if our DH's know each other?

So can I claim back some of my non existant officers wife points for having a proper old silver cross pram (the old dears in town approve - we have a fan club who regularly coo, so nice to see a proper pram!)
I have one child so far, and I do cross stitch, and I have a degree and my own furniture but mostly DHE curtains
DH has MA and bows and arrows in the garage (do I have to mention I couldn't tell you when they were last used?)
scaryteacher your ball at shriv sounds like a god night, similarly when DH was on JAIC we went out for a meal with the others and I had a bottle of wine while waiting for food to arrive. So when lovely Scot asks if its uniform or kilts for the wedding (we were engaged at the time) I reached under the table to check up his jeans before answering with pissed grin - definitely kilts!

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 14:23

Good on you Cali! When dh was at the other place in Brussels it wasn't uniform, and I was never really sure if his smart shirts for his suit then counted as uniform. I did iron them, but some of them were buggers to get right. I was glad when he moved and went back to uniform.

Yep, so is DH, on CC at the moment and is doing the w/end commute from Raleigh so home for 1 day a week. Only MQ I've lived in was The Keep, awful houses but loved Kingston. DH tends to keep me away from Naval functions, can't think why?

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 14:30

What's your dh doing at Raleigh Cali? My db works there, also a loggie two and a half, initials GK.

DH does all his own ironing. Must go and start to cook. Lamb with shrewsbury sauce and rosemary potatoes.

cali · 30/04/2008 14:38

ST, just there for 7 weeks on Charge, He's a loggie 2 and a half as well, initials DW.
Was at their conference last week and dinner last week. I had a lovely bottle of wine was dd's were in bed.

cali · 30/04/2008 14:40

Excuse typos,but dd2 - 8 months is //hpling me typee

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 14:44

Made me laugh when db did his charge course as he got very excited about the simulator I think it was. I just had visions of a hydraulically operated desk tipping papers on the floor to simulate a rough sea. He got v offended with me.

Was the conference in Portsmouth, as db went up to one there last week? If so, you may have met him.

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 14:45

Save me some lamb hf- what's for pud, and are you providing starters and chocs as well? What about a cheese board too?

sorry typing one handed and have just re read post about conf. sounded like I was there myself, no just dh

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 14:53

Trifle for pudding! No cheese board. A casual affair. Junior ranks!!

Dining room table seats 14 - is that worth an extra point?

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 15:00

Only if it's your own, and doesn't have to be extended to do that!

Mine seats 10 comfortably, and 12 at a squeeze. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit into the room designated as a dining room in this hiring.

You lose points hf - I don't do pudding unless I really like the people - they get cheese, chocs and port most of the time. Also, as I'm in Brussels the patisserie is superb, so I buy wonderful ganache gateau most of the time, or a tarte de fruits diverse.

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 15:08

It is my table and it doesn't have to be extended!

Trifle is easy!

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 15:20

You get a point then. Never made trifle - love it though.

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 15:23

Thank you. Are you in charge of points? Are you most senior wife?

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 15:37

Don't know - dh has been in RN for nearly 30 years, and is v senior Cdr. Only 6 years until he retires. Would rather he was what he is than a junior Capt though, except for the pension of course.

I am of course happy to delegate point scoring to you.
