....tell a senior Army Officer exactly what I think of him the next time I see him at the bus stop?

I am thinking yes but he is really getting on my tits!!

Mc Dreamy - points for 4x4's could also be scored on make of 4x4. Top points for Range Rover, nil points for Suzuki. Think of the badge - most crucial. BMW X5's are (apparently) drug dealers cars.

We used to live in Pissouri! Had an Avon Inflatable and used to spend all our weekends up on the Akamas Peninsula camping and then going for drinks at the Anassa!

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 10:23

I brought my own curtains and have used them where possible - but the size of the windows in this modern house as opposed to my period home are different. I am not paying for curtains that won't fit when I go home. I do however have all my own furniture, as I refuse to sit on nasty nylon covers and 'glow' for however long I'm here.

I may be an Officer's wife but it doesn't mean I behave like one. I don't do dinner parties, I only have a small sink so couldn't cope with the washing up, and I only have a single oven and hob here, whereas in Cornwall I have a range (a proper one), so two ovens, and a Belfast sink.

I'm up to 8 with the extra two points then!!

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 10:28

Scaryteacher - you should be a skilled seamstress too and make your own curtains on an inherited Singer maching with fabric picked up from the charity shop or the Hive.

Points can also be gained by having antiques, original oil paintings or having a parent or sibling listed in Who's Who. Titles are always good too.

And a husband who has a decoration of MBE or above is worth a point.

No points for having an Aga or a belfast sink.

On these grounds I should be drummed out now!

DH is MUCH better at flower arranging than me. Whenever we get flowers, he always sorts them out.

Surely the criteria could be updated a tad...?

(Just can't bear the idea of having so few points...competitive, moi? )

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 10:38

LL Yep - Land Rover and Freelanders get a point too.

Notyummy - I am thinking how you can drum up points. Do you own a racing yacht? A vintage sports car? What make are your appliances? Do you hunt, shoot or fish?

Notyummy · 30/04/2008 10:42

errr, 2 Nissan Almeras and no yacht.

No hnuting, shooting or fishing.

All appliances Whirlpool...although I do have a range cooker with two ovens and have been known to through the odd dinner party style get together..???

Notyummy · 30/04/2008 10:43

hunting

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 10:50

Not too bad. Next dinner party you have light some scented candles and spread a couple of issues of Country Life and Shooting Weekly on your coffee table.

Designer handbag? I am trying so hard. Make of pram?

Notyummy · 30/04/2008 11:09

No designer handbags. Two prams, one Mamas and Papas, one from Toys r Us.

I think I'm a hopeless case...

Having said that, we do go on FABULOUS holidays (with all the money we haven't spent on 4 x 4s, handbags and prams.)

Does that count?

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 11:11

Fabulous holidays do rate highly! Talking to someone who has every copy of Conde Nast Traveller magazine. Are you talking Top 100 hotels of the world?

Notyummy · 30/04/2008 11:15

We've ticked off about 10 of the top 100. Having a feisty toddler has curtailed it somewhat, as she doesn't appreciate the linen thread count and infinity pools (plebian!) We are sticking to Europe and this: chateaurigaud.co.uk/index.html

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 11:18

That looks lovely! Have you been to Forte Village in Sardinia? Where have you been? You lucky girl!

Notyummy · 30/04/2008 11:28

Not been to Sardinia yet. Most of the nicest hotels we have been to (Cape Grace/Burj etc) have been not in Europe. This hotel in Barcelona is fab though:

McDreamy · 30/04/2008 11:31

Oooh I think Akamas is my favourite place...second to Pissouri. We go up to the Columbia beach most weekends, lovely!!! We're off to dinner in Liminaki's tonight, did you ever go there?

So does that mean I can take off 2 points for my Nissan? (esate is a BMW though)!

I love having dinner parties and now have the book to help thanks to LL!! (The French Laundry)

We are going to Forte Village in September when dd will be 8 months!. Her first hotel stay was when she was 4 weeks old! Anassa and Almyra in Cyprus are family friendly. Gleneagles is good too - it does 1/2 price breaks every January!

Sani Resort in Greece or Coco Beach in Mauritius. www.familiesworldwide.co.uk is meant to be quite good too. You can also bid for holidays on www.luxurylink.com!

McDreamy - used to spend all my time on Pissouri beach/Columbia! 9 years ago!

I don't know Liminaki's. Our landlord (Androula) used to run the tavern in the village sqaure that did all the Greek dancing displays.

Just deduct 1 for the Nissan bearing in mind you have a BMW.

McDreamy · 30/04/2008 11:40

thank you

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 11:41

Are we taking the piss out of ourselves? It took me years to get the OK YA perfected. And I always wear a Barbour and Hunter Wellies, even to mess functions. Keeps costs down.
I am also bidding for a Shooting stick on ebay to put in my umbrella stand.

McDreamy · 30/04/2008 11:46

I am starting to believe to you HF!

I have made my own curtains though - mine were minging when I moved in!

OP posts:
hf128219 · 30/04/2008 11:54

I also buy phesants from the local farmer and hang them in my porch so it looks like I have been shooting. We do have a shotgun - and a fishing rod. Only fly fishing counts.
I have been thinking my own points again.

I have:
1 child
A degree
Went to boarding school
A husband with a degree and a decoration above an MBE
I child
A Land Rover
A Sports Car
A Boat
A fishing rod
A shooting stick (almost)
A shotgun
My own curtains
My own furniture
Still read books!
Can sew
Can paint
Have original oil paintings (only 6)
Antiques (about 3)
Barbours and Hunter Wellingtons
2 dead pheasants in the porch.

Notyummy · 30/04/2008 11:58
hf128219 · 30/04/2008 12:01

Has anyone got a stag's head? I have been trying to secure one on ebay but I keep getting outbid.

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 12:20

You put your child in twice - that's cheating!

I have :
1 child
Husband with 2 degrees, pscj and chartered engineer status and dolphins
Degree and PGCE
Boarded at sixth form in Winchester (Symonds)
Range Rover
Saab turbo
Glider
Own desirable period residence in a World Heritage site in Cornwall
My own curtains
Own furniture
Stanley (Agas too common)
Woodburner
Contents of a library
300 cookbooks
Too much alcohol
