....tell a senior Army Officer exactly what I think of him the next time I see him at the bus stop?

I am thinking yes but he is really getting on my tits!!

Not yummy - your new job looks difficult - central and local govt never talk to each other! How are you mean to achieve that?

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 12:29

Very, very good scaryteacher. We are making progress. Barbours should co-ordinate with Hunters. Do you finish the look off with a Hermes scarf and a diamond encrusted regimental brooch?

Sorry about putting child in twice.
I also have a cat (allowed because dh is infantry).

I also play tennis and golf (badly). I go sailing. My idea of cooking is to go to M&S, bash it up a bit and garnish with fresh herbs.

My husband also has 2 degrees if you count staff college.

No cleaner, nanny or au pair.

McDreamy · 30/04/2008 12:32

Oooh can we earn extra points?

DH has 2 degrees and is currently studying for and MSc and I have a live in maid!

No aga but in fairness I don't think anyone has them here but I do have a SAAB convertible no hunters though or Barbour - does a Driza bone count?

scaryteacher...I only started last week, so I haven't worked that out myself! Basically I think I just turn up at meetings with loads of unachievable targets for them, they complain, I say 'let me see what I can do about that', disappear for a week, and then come back with a 'better offer' and everyone's happy. Sounds like a plan anyway...

I am quite the dashing management guru around the new office thanks to all my new clothes purchased at Jigsaw, after a clothes consultation session with the lovely ladies on the style threads at Mumsnet!

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 12:43

Driza bone most definitely counts. The live in maid only counts if you pay for it yourself.

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 12:44

No, the RN doesn't have regiments - I wear my diamond earrings, and a gold Naval crown, or if not the diamonds, then the naval crown earrings that go with the brooch...and I always wear my pearls!

I cook from scratch (Brussels doesn't have M&S, or ready meals except chips). I have a bicycle which I will use when it warms up, stops raining, and then my artfully highlighted hair won't be disarranged.

No animals any more (buried in the garden in Cornwall) unless 12 yo ds counts? Soon to be a teenager, so it might!

Was offered Saab convertible for my 40th, but I didn't like it, (I like the older Saabs, the 93 doesn't work for me) hence the diamond earrings instead (one off pair made in Antwerp by Israeli ex-special forces chap).

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 12:48

Oh, I forgot, I also have a Barbour hat (green) and a Tilly hat for summer.

Notyummy, it sounds interesting. I worked in Local Government finance for 10 years before retraining as a teacher, and it was noticeable how central government could cope with local govt speak. It's the same in education as well.

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 12:49

Sorry, could not cope with local govt speak.

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 12:50

Oh gosh, we had forgotten about pearls! The more strands you have, the more senior your husband is.

I too have a bicycle. No diamond ear-rings. Several designer handbags though.

I love going to the ballet.

McDreamy · 30/04/2008 12:51

Committees as well, how many committees are you on?

OP posts:
Notyummy · 30/04/2008 12:51

My last job was in local government, so I think it is hoped that I may be able to communicate with both worlds.

We will see.
I used to be a teacher many moons ago. I was pretty scary too

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 12:59

Mcdreamy - well remembered re the committees! I am on none. Woops! I also shun the M&T group. I really can't be bothered to talk centiles, weaning and nappies. Some of the wives have no interests of their own. It's all just compare, compare, compare. I am a pseudo perfect army wife!

1 point per committee. 1/2 extra point if you chair it.

1 point if you host coffee mornings in your own home.

Family portraits can be picked up cheaply at www.lotsroad.com. Ensure you pick one with Countess or Admiral in the title.

Notyummy · 30/04/2008 13:02

ooh, ooh...when I was on mat leave I hosted a couple of coffee mornings!

There were partners of 'other ranks' there...I hope that doesn't ruin my points chances..

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 13:06

NY - well done! There is hope for you yet. Did you task the partners of the other ranks with any jobs - like running the jam stall?

cali · 30/04/2008 13:13

Glad I found this thread, needing a bit of cheering up as fed up with the Navy at the moment but not going to hijack this thread and bore you all with my moans!
Never thought I was a typical officers wife, in fact people have commented that they can't believe I'm married to an officer, was asked once if I had to wear dresses to functions, when I replied yes, was asked if I had ever watched "ladette to lady"
I then saw your lists, and have to admit to the following,
1 black lab, Archie
Barbour
Hunters wellies
Land Rover
Liking for G&T's - bombay sapphire
DH and I have both been to uni,
2 children
Can cook, bake and sew if I really have too.
Live in our own house, but overlooks HMS Caledonia's playing fields so get to see the white ensign every day.
Does this make me a good officers wife or am I still a ladette

LL, think we might know the same person, well DH does. The lab called Flags is very familiar

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 13:18

Hi Cali!

You are doing well. You are a good Officer's wife. Don't be fed up!

cali · 30/04/2008 13:35

Forgot the x1 coffee morning I hosted whilst on mat leave. Was living on a mixed patch at the time, one coffee morning was enough for me. However did have lots of piss upsdinner parties

cali · 30/04/2008 13:36

that didn't work!

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 13:38

I am chairman of the Youth Club for ds's school, and am also a class rep,(with the RAF other ranks wife who said I drove an Officer's car, no, it's mine!) and on the Parent's association committee. I also run (organise) a book group and teach English to non-native speaking mums.

Went to see Kelly Clarkson in Antwerp the other week and am going to one of the Proms in July when I'm back for the summer holidays.

Don't like gin (long story) but like port.

I also do host the book group and bake for coffee mornings when asked, and for the NATO Christmas bazaar.

I must be up to 10.5 points now - are we doing points for pearls?

Cali - when I was a very little girl I used to live in South Queensferry as my Dad was on the staff at HMS Lochinvar. I remember going to Edinburgh on the train for a treat. My db was there last weekend for a Naval wedding.

hf128219 · 30/04/2008 13:42

Scaryteacher - you are worrying me. I thought I was doing so well. I am having a dinner party tonight though. And I am very good at maths.

cali · 30/04/2008 13:48

Would love to live in South Queensferry but stuck the other side of the bridge,
Think we need points for gin/port. my points racking up quickly now.
Have just had a hazy recollection from 1st ever mess dinner, vaguely remember being poured a very full glass of port and being told that I couldn't spill it. So pulled dress up a little, half got up on table and drank port without lifting glass up from table.
Should I deduct points for such ladette behaviour or as we weren't married do I get to keep my points?

As you weren't married that does not count as ladette behaviour.

Points can also be awarded for playing Bridge.

scaryteacher · 30/04/2008 14:03

hf - it takes years of practice - I've been doing it for nearly 22 years now; and my Dad was a Naval orifice as well, so I've been playing this game all my life.

Crap at maths (failed O level - got a CSE and a CEE).

What are you cooking?

Cali - I got caught dancing on the tables at RNEC Manadon when dh was on the staff there by his Capt. I also had to be removed from the vicinity of an admiral once just as I was about to sink my teeth into the patronising bar steward....that was when dh was a Lt Cdr. I get bolshier and more non-conformist the more he gets promoted.

The last ball I went to at Shriv, I got quite carried away with a friend and a bottle of port. V nice Army officer in tight mess kit and boots with spurs. Great arse. He was pissed too. I told requested him to bend over so I could see his rear end properly, and he asked why. Respons: my dh writes your reports. He bent, I smiled, all happy. Bloody awful hangover the next day though, and I had to drive back to Cornwall.

cali · 30/04/2008 14:10

LL, I dont' know if it is the same couple but they were both Navy, she is same branch as DH and lab was def called Flags. Her initials were C B?
ST, glad to see I'm not the only one who likes to misbehave enjoy herself!
