When they come home...

DH is due back tomorrow after 10 weeks away. I have cleaned the house from top to bottom (pointless really as by the time he gets home tomorrow evening the girls will have undone all my hard work!) and tonight I plan to defuzz, do a face mask and generally titivate myself.

But he has spent 10 weeks holed up on a floating tin can with nearly a thousand hairy sailors! Will he really notice (or care) if I shave my legs!

i love doing all that before dh gets home new outfit, hair all done, perfect make up, perfect house.

then he will call from brize to say he is delayed and by the time he gets home i have fallen asleep on the sofa and wake up with creased clothes, panda eyes and hair sticking up like bart simpson. not to mention the bottles of wine that are lying all over the floor that helped me ease my nerves about seeing him again.

LOL at kerryk - have done that before!!

LL - I picked DH up from Brize a while back, hanging about in a crappy old hangar RAF arrivals hall has never been so exciting

I hate him being away but I love the anticipation of him coming home again. The butterflies, the excitement at him seeing his children, the guaranteed nookie it's like that first flush when you start seeing each other.

(And then he gets home and within 24 hours has really pissed me off but that's a whole other thread!!)

It's years since I went and DD1 was only 5 mths old but if it's the same, you should be fine to take him. It's big and not too busy.

Just take lots of snacks/water/entertainments. As far as I remember there is nothing much there (not exactly Heathrow!) and flights are often delayed. When I went DH was coming back from the Gulf, the flight was delayed, but nobody told us that and we spent quite a lot of time trying to find ground crew to tell us what was going on.

It might be better now?

When is your DH home? (approx if you don't want to/can't say)

On the subject of OH's coming home does anyone have any recommendations for where is best to go to meet a ship coming into Pompey - I cant decide to either watch it go by at the Round tower or be there when it gets in at the dock side . Have a few weeks to decide but getting v. excited!

Sidge · 23/04/2008 22:41

Pinkprawn - I never go

My DH is always last one off being an ME, so I wait for him to phone and tell me he's leaving and pick him up at the ferry!

But if I was going I would go to the dockside, that way you can see him as soon as he gets off

Snap - DH ME as well!( a few more acronyms and that would be a proper navy person sentence!) Thinking dockyard best as no trying to rush through Portsmouth and free parking! Can't wait to see him!!

Sidge · 23/04/2008 23:11

What's he on Pinkprawn? (use code if you prefer LOL!)

The countdown is so exciting isn't it?

Hi pinkprawn,

I always go to dockside and the atmosphere is great. Getting excited for you just thinking about it. I've got another 3mths to wait.

pinkprawn · 26/04/2008 10:32

Thanks for advice - can't stop singing they're coming home, they're coming home (football song) in my head!!! and jumping around when no ones looking!
He'll be on an intensive baby maintenance course when he gets home and then I'll be able to go out! A sort of Baby BOST or FOST or whatever that training thing they do down at Plymouth is!!
Hi Sidge trying to think of a code for the ship - think Coronation St.!!

catzy · 27/04/2008 15:58

Good code pinkprawn

My DH is due to land in Brize tonight then should arrive back on camp before midnight.
Im on here trying not to hoover the carpets till they are thread bare (actually not that dificult in an MOD property) and put up any more balloons, bunting and banners etc. HELP Im usually such a calm person!

hf128219 · 02/05/2008 18:21

MissPitstop Be calm! But I know what you mean I get so excited and my mouth goes dry! Watch the soaps and Benidorm, just chill out. Forget the hoovering!

VanillaPumpkin · 02/05/2008 21:21

Oooh how exciting!
I was working the day dh came home from OOA as he had not been able to tell me when his flight would get in so we decided he would get MT home. He was EARLY and I got a call at work (luckily on camp) and had to race home to find this tanned, tired, fit dh sat on his kit bag outside the house as he had no keys. You are much better wives than me. In my defence we hadn't even been married a year. I didn't have a clue.
Work gave me the rest of the day off though . I remember offering DH a cup of tea while he put rubbish in the dog food bin . It felt so weird, like I could really believe he was back .

catzy · 02/05/2008 21:40

Hi youngbutnotdumb. In my case my DH was Navy when I met him so was not really a choice and I don't know any different. It gets harder when the kids come along though. DH has got 4.5yrs left before he comes out at 40 then I'll have him under my thumb 24/7 . Just hope I'm not begging him to go back in after years of being used to space.
