I try to see the positive in the never ending tours, endless moving to yet another sustandard house ( 7 moves in the last 10 years), duties, guards etc etc
This weekend we were going away (supposed to be a long weekend), but last night DH came home he has to take prisoners to Colchester today so we loose one night in the place we have paid for. Easter leave - dates were released a couple of weeks ago, so we booked a place in Cornwall. DH also told me last night he has a 48 hour guard during the week we are in Cornwall. This isnt the first time this sort of thing has happened.
I am very lucky, I have somehow managed to keep my career going, have a lovely dd despite accompanied service. We only have a few years to go before 22 year point and yay the pension. But in the meantime the Army will test us to the limits

god you have been unlucky, they have tried this on with dh before (years ago when he was a private) but would back down if we had somewhere booked.

what wilkl he do, leave you in cornwall for a few days on your own?

glucose · 21/03/2008 14:09

yes I will have to stay in cornwall on my own with dog and dd. Its no big hardship I know but its supposed to be our family holiday. He will get the time back - but thats not really much use as the holiday will be over. Apparently they have chosen the blokes who live nearest for this guard as most of this regiment come from another part of the uk, so their leave cannot be spoilt by bringing them back. Its racism!

it is a big deal though if you are having to miss out on time together. this is the first year that we have managed to book a holiday in advance and not wait till the last minute like we usually do (only because dh is posted out of battalion at the moment).
