Hi there, I have never posted b4 so would be grateful of your help.

We are in quarters...or whatever they are called these days in Gosport. DH is based in portsmouth altho he is away for yonks this year.

I have landed myself a fab little job (much longed for and yippee I got it now!) in the New Forest.

Am in a bit of a pickle and wondering about relocating to southampton area maybe to have a good commute for me and easy access to m27 for dh.

How do I go about discussing this with anyone??? Or does my jb not matter a jot to the allocation etc.

please help.....be very grateful of any assistance!!

Thanks

Farf!

M27 is revolting, and very clogged up going into Portsmouth in the morning rush hour. He may not thank you for moving?

I have friends who have just come back from a job in Bulgaria, and were only offered one MQ on the new estate at HMS Daedalus at Lee-On-Solent. They hate it, and are counting down the days til they can leave. I think that you only get one choice these days and that's it.

If you're feeling flush you could rent privately, or buy there. It's worth getting on the housing ladder, and you won't ever make a loss in Hampshire IMO.

We are in fareham. DH works at Southwick Park/HMS Dryad. It takes him anything up to 45 minutes to travel to work each way. The place is only about 7 miles away as well

Hello and welcome!

Unfortunately it's your DHs job that counts for MQ allocation, yours does not. I agree Gosport to the New Forest is not a nice journey in rush hour. Where will you be working? (I used to live in Sway/Brockenhurst/Lymington!)

You could ask for a MQ out of Gosport, but that might make things worse for your DH depending where he is based. At least if you live in Gosport and he is on a Pompey-based ship he can bike to the ferry and then zip into the dockyard.

There used to be Army MQs in Marchwood years ago but I don't know if they are still there now. I don't think the Navy has any further afield West than Titchfield (and I think they are officers quarters).

scaryteacher · 15/02/2008 23:07

I didn't know there were MQs in Titchfield...you've worried me now, if DH ever gets a Pompey job, then I might have to live near mil!!! Whereabouts are they?

I thought Hillhead were probably the furthest west...and I understood that they were being sold, and being replaced by these new ones at Daedalus.

MegSophandEmma · 15/02/2008 23:19

Aye there are still MQ's in marchwood mixed in with now concil homes. Apparently they have had now houses built since I moved in 03. There are also quarters in hythe.

Scaryteacher - there are a few at the end of Titchfield village, but I don't think there are many. There are still a few in Hill Head, but again not many.

Loads of the Gosport ones were sold privately by Annington a few years ago, and replaced with the new estate at Daedalus. Beautiful houses but it seems some people don't appreciate them and the estate has had some bother. They do seem to have a low tolerance level though and have evicted persistent troublemakers!
