I had a friend lived there, she said it's quite central, she thought the school was ok, her MQ was ok as well, but it was an officer's so it would be. Our old neighbours moved there but don't keep in touch with them.
i'm sure there is some one on here at Halton it's not mylastrolo is it?

saltire · 12/09/2007 17:43

I've jsut checked a thread I was on with her a while ago and she does live there.

Blandmum · 12/09/2007 17:51

I didn't live in eth Quarters, and dh was at High Wycombe. We had to live in an excess rental property. It was a very nice part of the world, can't help with the schools, as this was when we were BC

ArthurScarCOD · 12/09/2007 17:56

hi Mc dreamy we live at halton. now going to be here for another 3 years. Taken a while now feel settled.

cherrytree nursery is worth phoning and putting your child's name down for. This is the military one my d/d has just left here to go to school.

another good 9-12 nursery in wendover. filters into john hamdon school . It has large intake 90 kids weird times afternoon session to start if c hild is young.

most forces kids go to halton which has improved alot since i have been here. When i arrived it has alot of bad press but new head teacher now and the tide has turned and alot send their kids there.

quarters have come down in price. They are small in ranks but surrounded by trees and nice enough. try and get a flat back garden it helps alot with young kids.

officer quarter's are nicer detached more space but dated inside.
perch meadow is open to all ranks detached like officers nice. costly to heat apparantly.

right have to go if i can give you any more info let me know.

Thank you very much I'm sure I will be picking your brains and asking you for more advice nearer the time if that is ok. Glad it all seems like pretty postive info so far

Which school has your DD started at (if you don't mind me being nosey!) I have had a quick look at the local school on line and it doesn't look great on paper but I'm willing to visit and get a feel for it before I make any descisions esp after what you say about a new head.

everyone is going to know me now. Is a name change needed? Ithink not.

ok long story are you sitting comfortably. I managed to get my girls into a very good catholic school near Amersham i know miles away. I work there part-time and that is why i did it.

plus I like to get away from military enviroment although. As i have been here a while and have become more used to military life with the daily journey london traffic especially when girls want to walk to school regret my choice sometime.

Then i don't when i see how well they are doing and how manerly they are. At the time Halton shool had bad reputation and well i made the decision and now i have to stick to it. Just wanted the best start possible for my d/d. Do repeat tide has changed and people are very pleased with halton school now.

McDreamy · 13/09/2007 14:03

Thank you for your honesty I have just been looking at all the schools available (we are roman catholic so opens up a few more although not essential she attends one!) and there are loads!!!!

Really hard to get a feel for them on the internet but we are in Cyprus so I don't know when we will get a chance to visit over the next 12 months but we clearly will have too!!!

Have found the nursey and that looks lovely.

There are atleast 2 in Aylesbury and Think is it St Louis is combined they don't have a middle school. I didn't manage to find it towards prison i think got lost and was having a bad day and couldn't find it way back then!!! but the lady on the phone possibly receptionist was ex military or married to guy in airforce and she was lovely and tried to encourage me to come and take a look. Their uniform is lovely.

other is St Joseph's bedgrove. Think it is good as well.

to be honest i go to mass in wendover not raf halton got tired of turning up for mass and no priest there. but again new padre is supposed to be very nice. Because i was a member of St. Annes parish i got into Our LAdy's because there is a certain alocation from each parish i think.

anyway, so tired off for an early night. Glad to be of help.

tori32 · 13/09/2007 20:35

I was single when I lived there, but have visited quarters, seemed ok.

McDreamy · 14/09/2007 14:23

Found St Louis on the web. It sounds very nice but it's hard to get a feel of a place from a web site. Think I will try and visit St Louis, the school at Halton and one other. Thank you so much for your help, it's really hard trying to prepare for a life back in the UK while you are abroad!

yep it sure is i was a bit shell shocked on my return from cyprus. Got excited and overwhelmed by shopping centre i know .

there is good and bad points to everywhere.

In my experience the best thing to do is drive around in your car get a feel for the place and try and join a few things.

right have to do my marathon school run.

McDreamy · 14/09/2007 16:53

oooh there is a nearby shopping centre? What are the nearby supermarkets like? How sad am I but you know where I'm coming from! Can't wait to get away from Orphanides!
