hi, my BF is away on submarines and we have no contact apart from the 60 words i get to send him every week, with no reply. just wondered if anyone had any advice/experience going through this. im finding it really hard and dont know if i can do it long term. thanks

It is hard but you can do it. The main thing is to keep really, really busy! And put a few dates in your calendar - fun things that mark a certain number of weeks past, so you can say well I've already done x number so I'm getting there. Good luck

@MamamamaT aww thank you so much. At the moment i'm a bit stuck. Im counting down the days and feel like im just wishing my life away and like its taking over so all i can think about is getting through the day so its one day closer. Although i know he will probs get delayed coming home so its just a vicious circle. Have you done it before?

Really sorry it's taken me so long to reply! I really sympathise, it isn't easy, but I can't emphasise enough how important it is to keep busy! Stuff to occupy yourself with daily, something to look forward to weekly, fortnightly, monthly... see friends, go to classes, exercise, throw yourself into work/study/whatever you do. It really isn't that long in the scheme of things, just fill your life with activity and he'll be back soon

I did it for years, and we got 2 x 30 word grumble grams per patrol!!

I used to approach it as having time to do what I wanted, eat what I wanted, spend weekends how I wanted, watch what I wanted on TV etc. I could be entirely selfish for the two months he was away, and arrange my life to my entire satisfaction.

I have to say I miss it at times!!
