I've been invited to my nephews passing out parade. And I've no idea what to wear it just says bear in mind weather changes and wear comfortable shoes!!

I'm a curvy size 14 although hoping to lose a bit of weight before.

Where's he passing out from?

Rule of thumb would be best version of Sunday best, and quite probably a hat.

MarthaArthur · 06/04/2018 22:27

I was gonna say comfy shoes!! I wear a dress with tights and a nice coat or jacket weather depending. Was freezing when i last went to one. What would you wear to a christening?

Chocolou · 06/04/2018 22:39

From purbright.

I really don't want to let him down by not being dressed appropriately.

Any links?

What sort of style are you into? Patterns? Sleeves? Length. Tights ankle boots and a nice dress is what i go for. When is it? You dont want to be too hot or too cold. Bring an umbrella in case.

I already own this pink one. Worried it's too frilly but quite like the white and blue one.

Oh they are both really nice i love that blue one so much! 😍

Chocolou · 06/04/2018 23:10

It's in May. I've got chunky but toned calves and I'm only short 5'2" so whilst I love ankle boots they'd look dreadful on me.

Ballet flats would also look beautiful with any of them dresses.

Chocolou · 06/04/2018 23:26

Would a navy cardigan or wrap be ok with blue dress then maybe some bright pink or nude ballet pumps.

That sounds lovely op. You will look beautiful. And congrats to your nephew :)

I would say wear the same kind of thing you would were to a christening or older relatives birthday meal , but comfy shoes are a must , tights highly recommended if you are wearing a skirt / dress and unledd the forcast is warm enough for you to consider sun block a jumper / carddie / coat as you will be stood very still for quite a while .

Most important of all go to the loo just before ! the queue will be huge after.

Chocolou · 06/04/2018 23:35

Thanks any more tips?

I attended a passing out parade (RAF) just this week, and only saw about 4 hats out of hundreds of people. Most people fairly smartly dressed but not wedding style. I wore a trench coat over a skirt and blouse and felt like I fitted in. They also provided fleecy blankets for keeping warm as we sat outside. I also saw quite a few ladies removing their high heels by the end of the afternoon! So a spare pair of flat shoes in your handbag is a good idea.

mpsw · 07/04/2018 08:12

Likelihood of hats increases with seniority of service, and seniority if those passing out.

(In the interests of harmony, I shall refrain from posting any of the usual jibes)

I think your dress would be fine, with cardigan (or jacket, but probably harder to find one that goes) rather than wrap

Thanks guys. I am super proud of him.
I'm just off to see him he's in his first weekend off Smile

Smart clothes but not wedding style. You probably won’t see many hats. I worn a cream and black woven shift dress and flat shoes for my DH passing out but that was 8 years ago now. Make sure you have a warm coat too you will be sat outside most probably and could be chilly. If you’re going to wear a dress be mindful of the material you don’t want it blowing up in the wind. Parade squares are big open spaces and can’t often be windy. I’ve attached a pic of what I wore if that helps. Pack some tissues too it’s an emotional day. Enjoy it! Huge congratulations to your nephew too!

Hello can any one tell me if the passing out parade for the RAF at RAF Halton is on the Tuesday of the 10th week of training or the Tuesday after 10 weeks. Thank you

Bluelady · 17/07/2018 09:44

Don't wear a hat, you'll be the only one unless it's Sandhurst or Cranwell. Smart dress or trousers and top will work well. There will be people in tracksuits (yes really!) so I wouldn't stress too much.

Pusscat1001 · 26/07/2018 09:33

My son has his graduation at RAF Halton on Tuesday September 18th. He started on June 12th. Guessing your son did too?
See you there! 😊
