Best ever Christmas Ball?

Ladies - my DH has charmingly signed himself up as ball chairman. Sigh. Already we're stuck on themes before we even get to any of the complicated decisions! What was the best ever Christmas ball theme you've attended? Thank you x

Not so much a theme but the best ones have always been those with lots of prizes rather than a few very expensive ones so more people have a chance of winning something. I can't think of any particularly memorable themes, they all seem to have been quite 'samey' - Victorian Christmas, Dickensian Christmas etc - tbh as long as there's lots of mulled wine, carol singers, a decent band and crackers/party poppers/mince pies people have been happy ime.

Narnia's a pretty good christmas ball theme. Had a narnia themed ball in germany once and it was The Shiz.
Things to do:

  • get loads of Christmas trees/greenery and make it look like a forest
  • have people walk in through a wardrobe full of fur coats (charity shops are your friends here- get a cheapo wardrobe for £20 and knock the back out of it)
  • get someone to dress up as Mr Tumnus (I think we got some poor private who had a "special punishment" from the RSM)
  • Have plates of turkish delight and hot chocolate (like the White Witch gave Edmund)
  • Get some enterprising young men with powertools to make the white witch's sleigh for a photo opportunity

Don't overthink Christmas balls. Anything too theme-y and people will hate it.
