Winchester

I have the opportunity to move to the mq's in Winchester.

Can anyone give me any info ie close to town, activities, housing etc?

Shopping excellent according to DH but well he is a man
Close to Southampton with good shops, including an ikea etc
Very close for beaches on coast straight down m3 and onto m27
I am close to Portsmouth so can get more specifics if you want.

Easy to get to Isle of Wight from S'hampton.

Lovely statue of King Alfred holding his big sword in the city centre. There is a myth, apparently, which states that, if a female virgin of at least 16 years old walks around the statue three times in a clockwise direction, Alfred will lower his sword.

Clearly the city folk are still waiting for this miracle to occur.

Back to Winchester:

Good road links to London, the Midlands and the south coast
Small, but reasonably pleasant shopping centre - some nice small independent shops and boutiques
Good park-and-ride
The longest medieval cathedral in Europe - contains the mortuary chests of several Saxon kings and Jane Austen's burial site
The Great Hall, containing King Arthur's Round Table (well, a 13th century version of it!)

Fab thanks guys - well I've said I'll go for 8 weeks to begin with we're moving to Harestock Mq's and hopefully if it's a nice area I'll stay on longer.

Harestock is probably the better area for qtr's
