And again, they only mention the Army...when will they learn that there are three services?

Hey in my opinion the army is too busy (well at least my DH, who is on standby for this despite having worked 100+ hours for the last 3 weeks and us going away in a weeks time, with NO mobile contact number as I am sabotaging itGrin) so if the other 2 services want the job jump in feel free this wife doesn't need the hassle.

scaryteacher · 31/03/2011 10:55

I posted this as I know one RAF wife has been inconvenienced already because of this, and her dh is not Army!

I don't think any of them need it personally - it wasn't saying the other two services need it, just that it would be nice for it to be acknowledged that the Navy and the RAF exist as well.

All 3 services are busy/stretched/committed elsewhere. I would just be nice if the press would acknowledge that the other 2 services are also called upon when this kind of thing happens.

Saltire · 31/03/2011 11:10

I regularly email the BBc and point out that they have said Army when they do in fact mean Armed forces.

As for the link, well if I meet Mr C, or Mr Fox, or in fact nay prison officer they are liable to get slapped.

wheresthepimms - at least oyu are getting away. my DH's leave has been cancelled - 2 lots, so he can go and train people how to be prison officers.
Each group of trainees are getting 1 week of training!
no extra money, paying for their food and accomodation on top of that. As well the sheer anger that many of them feel.

emmymoomoo · 31/03/2011 11:20

The Army is too busy, and the RAF, Navy aren't Angry

Ohhhhh to be able to go away as a family over the Easter break.

It really boils my piss when the press talk about one service, forgetting the others.

Not in the best of moods today. That's right DC sack make redundant lots of people, cut this that and the other and ask more and more of those still in.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

vintageteacups · 31/03/2011 11:33

scary it does say ^service personnel'.

"A source Ministry of Justice said: ?The unions are very, very angry. They are worried about the market-testing plans and we have had to take note.?

The above is what really annoys me - the Armed Forces aren't legally allowed to strike - so imagine the uproar if they said they were going to anyway- who would be trained up to replace them Grin - the difference here is that they wouldn't even think about it because they all serve their country and man up to the job at hand.

Kleftico · 31/03/2011 11:42

Maybe the Fire Service can stand in for the Prison Service? It'll be the Police next.

vintageteacups · 31/03/2011 11:49

Oh whoops - that's the wrong link quote.

"It was unclear last night whether ministers would go ahead with the announcement after the Prison Officers? Association said it had a mandate from members to strike if prisons were privatised, despite any such action being illegal. "

wheresthepimms · 31/03/2011 16:07

saltire, wasn't saying you guys should do it was just saying it's shite for all of us. My DH has worked 100+ hours for 3 weeks, has been told he HAS to take his leave as he will loose it if he doesn't (too many days carried over) and to then be told that it may all be cancelled, well I say just watch out as I am going to break, leave at home his mobile phone accidently on purpose and once we are away tough luck at getting him back. The insurance won't cover us as the strikes are illegal.

I know all the services are busy but was being sarcastic (sorry didn't come across on here as you can't see my faceGrin)

wheresthepimms · 31/03/2011 16:09

Maybe they should privatise the forces, then we might all get a little extra spending money (anyone ever noticed how much contractors get paid). Oh no then they would all be on strike Grin given the conditions we get to live in

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 31/03/2011 16:22

Sorry is that a suggestion for a prison ship at the end?!

This is just outrageous - bit that it's happening and also the sloppy reporting.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 31/03/2011 16:23

Both even.
