Hi - posting this in Primary Ed too but I have a friend moving to aldershot and she doesn't anyone down there to advise her which schools are good. Primary schools that is.

Anyone recommend a good one - she'll be living in officers quarters (not sure where) at Aldershot. Perhaps I'll ask her so I can more specific with the info.

Thanks in advance.

sorry posted on fb but no one we know has ever been there but could tell her to try this link
www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceFor/ServiceCommunity/Hive/SouthEast/AldershotHive.htm

hive could at least give her some info :)

vintageteacups · 23/03/2011 12:46

she's contacted the Hive already but thanks anyway.

It was more that she wanted personal recommendationa to specific schools rather than just a list of local ones IYSWIM?

I've just replied to you on the Primary Ed board, but from what you say I think her nearest school will be Marlborough Infants. Not sure if there is a junior school there too. Have a look at the links on my other post. The Ofsted report for Marlborough says it is 'oversubscribed' but people move in and out all the time there, so I'd say it's worth a go!

To the best of my knowledge, the North Camp schools are also good. I'm basing this on the opinions of friends who send their kids to them. I know everyone is happy with St Marks Primary (link on other thread). It is teeny-tiny - unusual for a built-up area, I think. Nice thing about Marlborough is that she will meet other forces families on the school run and the school will be geared up for the whole military thing. If I were in her shoes, I'd definitely start by looking at that one. I just can't figure out where they go onto next, but perhaps a phone call to the school will answer that one for her?

Hope this helps. Sorry for links being on other thread - took me much googling to get them there and I can't face doing it all again. I know, I know - lazy of me.

Thanks very much always - I will forward the details to her Smile

Have you got your aff mag yet vintage? There is a new website advertised in it all about moving and what schools are like according to wives views.

vintageteacups · 29/03/2011 11:08

Funnily enough pimms, I don't receive it here (own house and all that).

Seems like they don't send them when you're not in an MQ.

I normally check it out online but tbh, the sites not that great for flicking the pages - sometimes it takes forever and it's really annoying.

I shall perhaps ask if they can post me the latest copy.

you should put your name down on the posting sheet, we all get ours posted no local delivery person here. email [email protected] The other website is www.patchpedia.co.uk its a community project started in Aldershot so should have decent information, haven't checked it out myself yet only got the aff journal yesterday :)

vintageteacups · 29/03/2011 11:25

Just emailed AFJ and asked to have winter back issue and the new spring ones posted. Will tell friend about patchpedia - thanks.

don't.

ask for a house in st michael's road in farnborough, and get the kids into north farnborough infant school. or frimley c of e for juniors.

much nicer.

i told dh that there was no way on this earth i was living in aldershot. so we didn't.

it's only about two miles away from the shot, and you can still get to the lovely shops in north camp (kids shoes! and deli!)
