I know I'm being a bit naughty but there's a current thread on AIBU about whether forces personnel should be allowed to go into fast track teaching degree ahead of civvies.

Gosh - some people have a very unrealistic view of what serving personnel are like!

Scroll up to one of her posts, and click on her username at the top of it, and it should take you there. You'll see what I mean.

scaryteacher · 02/03/2011 19:08

mpsw- I bet it's a Marine, it's the dry-humping that's the giveaway!

McDreamy · 02/03/2011 19:59

ISWYM - Think you are right!

McDreamy · 02/03/2011 19:59

Grin Scaryteacher

CaveMum · 02/03/2011 20:20

Scary Grin My BiL is an ex-Marine reservist and always says 2 things give away a Marine:

  1. A tendancy to get naked at any given moment
  2. A penchant for women's clothing
MrsSnaplegs · 03/03/2011 07:10

And the reason my ds (age 12 weeks!) will never make it ad a RM - he hates getting naked Grin

Huffymuffy · 03/03/2011 12:57

I just tend to avoid all those Military bad, civilian good, threads. My DH (RAF) thought the teaching thing was hilarious. His take was perhaps the teaching profession needs an intake of new blood that rarely goes off sick, and finds routine easy. Therefore a good influence Blush. I suspect that's because he's a bit thick from all the studying for his Msc Grin.

madwomanintheattic · 03/03/2011 15:26

although i have to say the least likely serviceman to cope in a school is the education officer from here. i suspect strongly that's how he ended up in the army despite with his teaching degree. he seems spectacularly unsuited to either career.
he might make a good accountant.

goinggetstough · 03/03/2011 21:22

You've got me worried now....what chance do my DC have as I was in the Army and DH still is? It would appear from the other thread that people in the Army are dim..... so two dim parents.........!!!
Joking apart though it does make me sad to see how little people know about military life and how much they just assume to fill in the gaps in their knowledge!

McDreamy · 03/03/2011 21:27

Grin going - we are equally as dim a family although we're RAF so I don't know if that makes us more, less or equally as dim as the Army Grin

Try not let other people's ignorance upset you. It has me in the past, a couple of years ago I got really upset over a military debate on here. I was really down about it for days, couldn't believe that people could not only be that ignorant but that nasty about the military Sad

madwomanintheattic · 03/03/2011 23:37

oh, we're dimmer i think, one blue one green. clearly too dim to even realise we weren't supposed to talk, let alone get married. Grin

MrsSnaplegs · 04/03/2011 08:37

mad we are equally as dim one dark blue one ex green! Does that mean dc will choose light blue or by then will the only choice be purple?! I think the upsetting thing for me about the opinions, especially in light of cuts and redundancies is why do I do it still, have I waited the last 19 yrs of my life for a country that doesn't appreciate it!

scaryteacher · 04/03/2011 10:59

I appreciate you Mrs S.

hf128219 · 04/03/2011 12:44

Do you suggest I don't read the other thread?

Anyone willing to sum it up for me?

Smile
vintageteacups · 04/03/2011 13:05

MWITA - Is dimmer a word Grin?

vintageteacups · 04/03/2011 13:07

Basically Hf - they think that pretty much all forces aren't capable of being teachers (and certainly aren't deserving of a fast track teaching course just for ex-forces) because they aren't stable and shouldn't be in a classroom with kids as they're unable to 'relate' to anyone outside of the forces. These rantings were mainly geared towards the army but this is possible because said posters think forces means army.

Does that sound much like it ladies?

OP posts:
Sidge · 04/03/2011 13:20

Pretty much teacups, but don't forget that all soldiers (for all people in the Forces are soldiers) are bullyboy thugs, incapable of living in the real world with the normal people as they are socially and morally isolated. They are all trained killers and thus would take any opportunity to promote their killing career to any passing schoolchild.

hf128219 · 04/03/2011 13:22

As an Army wife I will definitely steer clear of such ignorant ramblings. I would be likely to blow a fuse.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 04/03/2011 13:32

Also all Forces are right wing disciplinarians who wouldn't listen to lefty leaning teachers who know how it should be done.

Chulita · 04/03/2011 14:29

I can't believe you lot read that thread! I got one page in a couple of days ago and was so irritated I stopped.
And Forces = Army doesn't it? or maybe that's just me being dim Grin

scaryteacher · 04/03/2011 14:35

Very dim Chulita; as I kept pointing out, there's the RN, and then the rest!!!

Hf, you're an army wife, so according to one poster dim and a social pariah.

Amy member of HM Forces who went into teaching would also need a full psychological assessment because of their mental instability.

Personally, I think some of the teachers were scared that ex Forces people would rock up, do the job well, not take sick leave and show then up; the teachers did protest too much I thought.

Also interesting that despite all the handwringing over letting ex Forces near kids....no-one picked up on the points I made about Forces people being parents themselves, and that Forces families didn't have their kids removed at birth, so can't be that unstable.....

scaryteacher · 04/03/2011 14:36

Oh, and we posted Chulita - you have to keep challenging prejudice and discrimination as lots on MN keep pointing out....

madwomanintheattic · 04/03/2011 14:45

lol vintage, it is here - me with my first in english and all that. Wink

Chulita · 04/03/2011 14:50

Fair enough scary I just don't have the patience to argue with people who are never going to change their minds cos they're dead set on an image of the Forces that they got from some tv prog.
(can I use the expression 'dead set'? or does that only confirm the violent nature of the Forces that infiltrates all aspect of our lives)

scaryteacher · 04/03/2011 15:57

It was either arguing or the ironing....and I loathe ironing dh's white uniform shirts.

Dead set evidently confirmation of violent natures etc
