he left in august and told em he would cancel the GYH he was getting worth £280 a month for our house.

he doesn't rent anywhere else and is on a base (has been throughout the whole of last year and until present) but i saw recently on FB that he was talking of the military cuts affecting his GYH. there is no point in asking him as he will lie. what should i do? will this affect my tax credit application as a lone parent?

There are different types of gyh he may be on one of those

BooyFuckingHoo · 22/02/2011 11:54

what are the types? he wasn't receiving anything before he moved in with me and he is now back in the same circumstances as then.

Wont affect your tax credits. Were you married? Do you have DC?

HDT is lost for 3 miles or less in May, 6 miles or less in May 2012 and 9 miles in May 2013.

If you mean GYH(T) (ie someone who lives on camp during the week and travels to his 'selected place of residence' at weekends) then that is reducing by 1p per mile from May 10.

If he is still travelling to see you then he would get it. If he isnt then yep, he is comitting fraud and could be disciplined.

If you are talking GYH(EY) then from May only those in training will get it.

How you would tell his unit I dont know though?

BooyFuckingHoo · 22/02/2011 12:21

no not married. 2 dc. he doesn't travel to see us. we live in nortehrn ireland. when we were together he came home every other weekend but the last he was home was his Xmas leave. i am not sure which version of the GYH it is, but by your description it sounds like the GHY(T).

is there something other than GYH because he had to get a letter from my landlord to prove he was now paying rent. i don't think he would need that if GYH was just for travelling. or maybe i am wrong.

Hi Booy

Yep, he would need a letter to confirm that he was paying rent - he obviously told the Army that your place was his 'Selected Place of Residence' to get GYH(T). We also ask soldiers to provide council tax bills to prove that is where they are 'choosing' to live.

If he is still getting it then he hasnt told his Admin Office that your relationship has broken down. They are still assuming that he is travelling to yours at the weekend.

He should now have his camp address as his 'Residence at Work' address in which case he does not qual for GYH(T). he doesnt get any assistance to travel, even to see his children.

Bottom line is that he shouldnt be getting it - but unless you know someone in the admin office then there isn't anything you can do about it. His Admin Office would rely on him being honest and telling them he was no longer travelling.

Saying that though, if they did find out it would be painful for him as they could claim back all the GYH(T) he has had since you spilt.

BooyFuckingHoo · 22/02/2011 14:58

yes he was asked for a council tax bill aswell but in northern ireland we dont pay council tax, we pay rates and they are paid by my landlord annually so we couldn't provide a bill, they were happy with the landlord's letter. he is navy if that makes a difference. but even so, i still wouldn't have a clue who to contact. there is no point me asking him as i know he will lie. i guess if it wont affect my tax credits then it isn't anything to do with me. it's up to him if he wants to risk it.

Same rules for the Navy - all part of us being 'purple' lol

Yeah, well he's committing fraud, which pisses me right off, but there isnt anything you can do.

Bit fucking cheeky of him to complain about the reductions when he's getting an allowance he's no longer entitled to! Greedy fecker - lets just hope he's found out huh Smile

BooyFuckingHoo · 22/02/2011 16:51

cheek doesn't even cover him. he tried to get me to keep claiming tax credits as a lone parent when we got together. Hmm this describes the look he got from me quite accurately i think.

What is his unit? If you know, then write to the CO of the ship/base (including your ex-dp's service number) and explain that you are separated and that he no longer lives with you, and you think he is still claiming GYH.

i.e:

If he is in Plymouth, write the
Commanding Officer,
HM Naval Base
Devonport
Plymouth
Devon

If he is part of ComDevFlot, then if you know his specialisation, write to the SWEO/SMEO, Cdr etc and it will be dealt with.

BooyFuckingHoo · 22/02/2011 17:49

wouldn't have a clue of his service number or anything like that. he is a WE in rosyth.

Commander David Pickthall CEng Royal Navy is the CO of HMS Calendonia in Rosyth. If you sent a note to him, I imagine it would be investigated and action taken if appropriate.

scaryteacher · 28/02/2011 12:51

Yes it would be; he's a good bloke.
