Increase in MQ costs

Has anyone out there been hit by a reclassification of MQ? Ours went up last year (didn't pick up on it as DH was deployed) by about 65%. DH is attempting to challenge this, but is getting the run around. Does anyone have any idea where the rules are set out? It seems that the main reasons ours has gone up is proximity to London and also that the surveyor used an electronic gadget which told him that the houses were bigger than they thought. Hmm

I know other people have bigger concerns, but an uplift of £150 - £200 a month is unwelcome with everything else that is going on.

Thanks in advance.

JSP464 part 4 here

has all the stuff about re-gradings etc.
JSP 315 has all the sacles in it.

Can you get onto armynet? (or equivalent if you are with another service)

If you are with the Army, get in touch with Ali Willis at AFF who can give you some pointers! AFF Housing

Much appreciated. I will pass that on to DH. I think he has been through most of the JSP, and isn't hopeful of success, but it is worth a go! Just seems outrageous that they can increase rent by that much when we live in a quarter where the kitchen is ancient, the bathroom the same (with shower that doesn't work) and the pipes freeze through lack of inulation.

You can challenge the grading if it has been increased. All the info is in JSP464. Good luck though as it will be a very long process. We managed to successfully challenge our grading in Colchester but it took over two years to finalise.

Thanks FJ. I suspect that we won't last the course...intending to move out (to our own house) in the summer. Can't wait - oh to have a shower that works and a decent kitchen. Not to mention a bit of insulation and pipes that don't freeze.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Am hoping that DH uses it....Hmm
