Just found out we are off to Brize Norton, anyone know what the type 4 quarters are like inside? Hope they aren't as ugly as the outside. Thank goodness for Google Street View!:)

Not sure about the specifics of Type 4s - what are those?

We were at Brize for a while and looked at several MQs before putting out application in (we moved from just down the road at Lyneham). I may be able to be more specific if I know what type 4 is.

Are type 4 Officers?

Anyway - its safe to say that all those vile looking pre-fabs are alot better on the inside. Apparently (hearsay) the bungalows are to be avoided due to damp issues.

Carterton (where the mqs are) is quite alright really. Several handy shops, large co op and a few pubs. Nice leisure centre. Witney 10 minutes drive away has more shops now including a cinema, small M&S and a tiny debenhams- its handy if you dont want to battle through the traffic into Oxford or Swindon.

Thanks Mum72, Type 4's are Sqn Ldr and equiv. I suppose what I am after is knowing what kitchen and sitting room size is like. They are horrible looking whatever size they are!!:)

Well we looked at some Officer houses (my DH is not commissioned) because a certain streets of what once were officers MQs were able to be allocated to other ranks for some unknown reason. But the Officers patch is in its own area.

The prefab Officer Semi's I went in were 3 and 4 bed. Still prefabs I am afraid. Good sized rooms. Very large downstairs cloakroom (my friend apparently has her tumbler in there and still room to swing a few cats). Fair sized lounge with hideous fire on the wall from a previous age (would like to think such a contraption may well have been condemned)large window to front. Double doors to a large dining room with door and window to rear. Long kitchen also at rear with lots of work top space. Door to side of house. Large space under stairs that double back on themselves.
Sperate WC to bathroom. Some house had lovely avocado, some grey and some white suites - tiles also interesting with a 70's theme) some did have just the usual white). I recall pretty much all rooms had fitted wardrobes except maybe 1 room in the 4 bed house. All rooms a fair size and no real tiny box room. 2 very large rooms. I think the master bedroom may have had a basin in there. Huge airing cupboard - I think I got very excited about the size of the airing cupboard!!
I know from dropping my friend off that all the officers houses are set well back off the roads with long driveways for at least 2 cars and garages.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful - we only moved 8 months ago but viewed the MQs about 4 years ago - so a while back now. We ended up being housed out towards Woodstock in a brick house Grin but no officer housing is available there.

Hope this helps som ehow - but please be assured the houses are alot more pleasant on the inside. I almost cried when we drove around the MQs for the first time - but was much happier once I had looked inside a few bacjk in the days when you could pop into the housing office and get keys!

Thank you so much Mum72. You have been a great help. I just need to chill and wait to see what we get allocated. I'll wait to cry until then, especially if I have an avocado bath!!

I'm getting a tad bored of this whole moving thing...it's really not that fun anymore!

The Type 4's at braize have quite big kitchens...... and the lounge is fairly big too- we have a friend currnetly in one- and to be honest they have fine- where are you moving from.. sometimes it good to compare it? and if I can I will.

They are ugly houses from the outside we spent 3 years there but they are fairly big on the inside and to be fair i think our friends are currently paying grde 3 or 4 rent so its peanuts too!

We havd an avoacdo bath! Lovely!! Not but if you get get past that! Ther is a really helful lady at he DE office at Brize- If you could ring the DE office at Brize she might even give you a heads up on the liklihood of your allocation!

Good Luck!

Thanks Mrs Mooey, sorry to take ages to reply but haven't been on here for ages! Do you happen to know if you can fit a table in the kitchen?

OP posts:

Yes- I think you could in the ones I have been easily- well clearly not a table sitting 10.

Sorry about my awful typing above! I really shouldn't do these things in such a hurry!
